‘Go to Finale they said, it’ll be sunny and dusty they said’. It wasn’t. I think we picked the worst week back at the end of May. It was still absolutely amazing. A few pics below and one of the write ups here: https://pickled-hedgehog.com/?p=4382

We didn’t take as many pics as we should have as a) it was a bit wet most days and b) we were riding stuff where stopping wasn’t really an option.

Should you go? Absolutely. I say that even after one of the crew broke his leg!

Great place. You kind of expect sun when going away but its not always the case unfortunately. I would have spent the week in that bar if it was pissing down every day rather than riding.

chicken line at the end of Madonna I see 😉

love that place. How moist and foggy was Nato base? Did you manage to get to Petra Ligure?

The NATO base was in cloud the entire week. A couple of times I didn’t want to get out of the van it was so cold! Not sure where Petra Ligure was. We rode the first day where the EWS stages were (and the last day as well), we also did a day where we uplifted to the old forts and then rode up for another hour or so, then rode some of the original trails.

Not sure about the chicken line, we were just following the guide!

It was very varied when we went last June, yet it was still a blast! Trails were still grippy. Went down Briga Right in what seemed a monsoon! We rode down a river. Think it was one of my fav trails despite the conditions.
I'm still to go on an MTB holiday where it hasn't rained lol!

I take it this wasn't with Cycleactive? Their description sounds a bit tamer ! ( thankfully ! )

Nope. We booked the accommodation and uplift separately. Can’t remember the guiding company but if anyone is interested I’ll dig it out.

There’s definitely lots of blue stuff from the Nato base. It just gets a bit steeper and rockier near the bottom.

Done 3 trips out there and thankfully never even seen a drop of rain. Hopefully I haven't cursed it for September this year 🙂

It’s easy to go off people you know 😉 Apparently the weather has really changed over the last few years. Nowhere near as predictable. The week before and after we went weren’t great either.

I would love to go back in September….in the dry… would probably fly this time tho and not do a full week.

We have been out in August when it was really to hot to bike but we did. Usually go out late September for the EWS and the weather and riding has all ways been first class. Will be going back in September for a week.
Was in Canazei last week and it was high 30C and blue skies.
Arrived in Les Orres last night after a nine hour drive.
Can't wait to get the bike out
