Hi
I haven't ridden Finale Ligure since 2007 when I uplifted with Finale Freeride & loved the trails.

I'm thinking about heading back there at some point this year & will definitely be uplifting again but would like to know how long & difficult the climbs are to the trails?

My bike will be quite heavy & 180mm travel so I will only be able to slowly winch or push my way up.
No technical climbing for me

Are there fireroad type climbs to any of the trails?

Is it possible to climb to the Nato base offroad?

Thanks for any info

2nd time I went I went without a guide and just booked an uplift at the start of the day , often to that cafe in din? maybe. Near the start of rollercoaster. Then I would traverse, climb etc to trails. It was utterly exhausting and baking hot, even in may. I cant imagine what the climb from the old town up to say din would be like. It would probably take hours on a enduro shred sled and you would be utterly spent by the time you got there.

However, there are trails lower down, but you want to get up top for the good stuff no?

"utterly exhausting and baking hot" ha ha, thanks for the warning.

I suppose i'm wondering if there are push-uppable trails with climbs that won't kill me to be able to do a bit of riding without the uplift as I won't be able to afford to uplift every day.

Oh I'm sure there are... but one way uplift is (or was) 10 euros I think. Appreciate its cash but yeah it's not insane money

Ah, that's good to know. I assumed it was £45 a day for a full uplift or nothing.
Thanks for the info

We tend to mix it up a bit for the week. Two or three guided day tours.
Three or four early uplifts from the campsite service, trying to keep high befor the last blast down from top to bottom. Last time we went, also did Sospel and San Remo, we took ebikes so we could do some exploring away from Finale. It was still hot climbing on them

We climbed from the square up to NATO base for the EWS, iirc it was ~20k & 1000m vert. It was disgusting & I would never want to do it again.

"20k & 1000m vert"
Blimey! That's definitely not for me!

You can do single uplifts to the base, and then loop the trails from there. The climb is generally back up the road & it’s not actually too bad & you’re not doing masses of elevation each lap.

Then when you are done you can pick a long trail all the way down to the valley floor & just roll down the road back to town.

Worth using something like Trailforks as a decent amount of stuff is on there & you can easily work out the climbs.

Try backcountryfinale.com

Really excellent setup of proper locals- they have a jacked up defender and shuttle well away from the main stuff and hardly any climbing

we descended into the hinterland well behind finale to some amazing little villages for lunch most days.

loved every minute of it.

I did Finalborgo to Nato base in 1h25 back in February. Mostly went up the road with the last few hundred metres of vertical being on a nice rideable trail. Yes it's a 1,000m climb.

That was on a 130mm trail bike. I would not fancy doing it on a 180mm sled!
