So i've turned my dirty harry into a single speed but i have a few problems:
1. I'm using a hope pro 2 evo hub with alloy free hub how long till it gets cut up too much, would it do it on the 1st ride before i have the chance to buy the steel one.
and 2. I have the dmr simple chain tensioner which worked fine with with my specialized but not so great with this frame, i have to remove the smaller of the 2 bolts and only tighten the big bolt with this work its way loose, and if so any one know of a chain tensioner suitable for this frame.
Thanks in advance.
1) If you're using a wide based sprocket a lot longer than if you're not. Personally I'd wait for the steel one to arrive but then I have significant body mass + thighs like a rhino (only less attractive).
2) I found the DMR one couldn't cope with certain ring/cog combos as it's range of adjustment isn't that great. Realistically I think you need both bolts - a one tooth change in sprocket or ring might fix it (or is it that the holes don't line up).
Pic would help.
Charlie the Bike Monger does an excellent range of SS stuff and I got many of the harder to find things I needed from him.
Could try this...

or there's a cheaper option at £17.
I use a Blackspire Stinger as a chain tensioner on my SS, looks neater to IMO.
I use surly single cogs on alloy bodies with no issue but they can be a pain to find
thanks for the all the suggestions,
(or is it that the holes don't line up
yeah the hole is nowhere near like maybe 15mm away from lining up.
All good advice above.
Don't risk a free hub for the sake of a surly or halo fat foot from about £15. Buy one today and I will post it today... So no big delay
Surly single actor is the a very adaptable tensioner and still the best around. There is a reason I don't sell the dmr ones.
First piece of advice: Listen to Charlie.
Second: Wide based cogs on a Pro 2 hub body will be fine.
Third: I bodged a rubbish (like, really rubbish) chain tensioner. I used it in up-turn (so it increased the chain wrap around the sprocket) and held it in place with zip ties.
