So off on holiday for a week, staying just outside Filey. Hoping to get some time on the bike, Ive mapped a route out, but does anyone have any recommendations or routes to avoid in the area (Obviosuly Dalby but being loads before) ? Route is from along the valley near Duggelby along the edge of the wolds finising in Hummanby. Also looking to take my daughter (6 years old) on a smoothish surface ride into Filey and maybe on the tracks around Wykeham Forest if possilbe, so any one being lately, or is the MTB any good.

Thanks in advance

I suspect if you look at the Strava heatmap for that area and filter to Mountain Bike ride you might get an idea why no-one has answered this! It appears to be an area completely devoid of MTB activity. Not sure what the bits around Driffield are like, but the other patch around Birdsall is, I believe, the tracks from an enduro event on private land so no public rights of way.

https://www.strava.com/maps/global-heatmap?sport=MountainBikeRide&style=standard&terrain=false&labels=true&poi=true&cPhotos=false&gColor=mobileblue&gOpacity=100#9.3/54.1418/-0.5384

Most of the bridleways of the Yorkshire Wolds are either gravel tracks or edges of fields that may or may not have been ploughed in to a bumpy mess.

I live at the south end of the wolds and pocpoc is spot on with his description. It is gravel bike territory really. The birdsall trails used for the yorkshire mountain bike marathon are really good but mostly private. Check the maps for bits you can ride. I did the event this year and trails were great but I wouldn't say enduro more blue/red xc. Otherwise it's dalby, north york moors or more of an explore as you have planned. Some of the good bits are footpath sadly so a bit cheeky. But a very peaceful area with some great views.

Cheers all, ye it's what i thought. Well, i'm not looking for anything too serious, so a nice ride on some gravely tracks is fine. IM only on HT and probably not as fit as i think. Route ive planned finishes at our rental place, but last few miles all on the road so i might get the wife to come pick up once it get to a suitable location or maybe cheekily cut across on some FP's.

I should have said do you know if you ride only the tracks past the RAF radar station above Staxton ? Im trying to see if i can get a route from the Willerby Wold area across to Filey without having to go down the hill and back up or going along the A1039 Road.

I've not ridden that bit but have planned a wolds way gravel route using that bit. Only option seems to be Danebury Manor to Hunmanby Grange then Centenary Way to Hunmamby then quietest road route into Filey. Not many direct off road options from RAF station sadly. The official wolds way is direct but farmers and walkers do get a bit miffed with cyclists on there

You mention Wykeham just outside Scarbados - used to be some great old skool DH tracks there back in the day. No idea whats there now but suspect there are still a few bits. I know you rule out Dalby but Dalby is far, far, far, far more than just the red/blue mundane stuff...

Interested in Wolds gravel ideas - I've had a few looks at stuff starting from the Pock area and heading up into the Wolds from there and for a reasonably hilly, pretty beautiful in places part of the world, it does seem completely devoid almost of anything worth riding.
