You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Sure it's a fair price what with venue hire, insurances, health and safety, and I think a chunk goes to charity. But still, 50 quid to go for a ride.
50 quid? I'd expect Geraint Thomas to push me up the hills if i paid that much.
and I think a chunk goes to charity.
Skeptical.
Agree with the rest though, if I want a 100mile challange without the hastle of finding a route I stick a pin in about 45 mile radius ofmy house on mapmyride, transfer that to the edge and I'm away.

Have you seen how much a loaf of bread costs these days? And don't get me started on how much folk pay for a bicycle.
Seriously - it's not compulsory. Let those that are happy to pay that do so without you casting judgement on whether or not it's a good use of their money.
£50??!!
Bollocks to that. I'm only down for one event this year, the Fred Whitton. Once I've finished that (fingers crossed!!) it'll be Audaxs for me.
and I think a chunk goes to charity.
I'd check that. SOME appear to be connected with charties, but in fact they only encourage you to get sponsorship and none of your entry fee goes that way.
I'm amazed trail_rat hasn't mentioned 'audax' yet, he must be busy.
About the same as a round of golf isn't it......
Wow,you must have missed all this then 🙄

He is too busy training for this
Apparently you can spend £100,000 on a car. Madness eh.
Yes it is too much, so vote with your wallet.
Bowland Badass is £10 and you get 166 miles and onion bhajis!
Wild Wales is £15.And as much tea and kit kats as you stuff in yer fat face.
It's madnees I tell thee. You aren't even allowed to race unlike the ones at home in France. 😆
and you don't get a 3 course meal including wine at the end either. And they're only around 30 euros unless you go for the 'popular with the English, Dutch, Belge etc.' variety.
Well it's £50 due to all the freeloaders doing the 'race' and not paying for it. Everyone knows that 😉
About the same as a round of golf isn't it......
Bloody hell, where do you play??? 😯
Interesting article from last year about the Etape accounts and what goes (or rather doesn't go) towards charity:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/bike-blog/2012/jun/20/charity-bike-ride
Well it's the Bath 100. You can either do it for 50 quid, or 28 quid and raise a minimum of 30 for the charity. I'd rather go the latter and sponsor myself the 30 quid, at least I know some of the cash is going to charity. I couldn't find anywhere on the website that says if any of the 50 quid would go to charity. Either that or just rock up and ride the route 🙂
Bloody hell, where do you play???
I don't. But here's one quite close to where I live http://www.tracypark.co.uk/golf/green-fees/
Extra tenner for 2 pints of pissy lager and hey presto!
Is this the Manchester version? People paying to ride the streets of Manchester city centre... think I'll keep my money where it belongs (the bar maid).
Caledonia Etape is over £60 this year, a lot, but it is a great atmosphere and closed roads. AFAIK none of the entry fee goes to charity...
Is the Caledonian the one where everyone takes 4 spare inner tubes and 2 puncture repair outfits?
boblo - that's the one 😛
It amuses me how some people feel the need to pass judgement on others and how they spend their money 🙄
I wonder if those that do, subscribe to Sky; I mean how much to watch TV 🙄 !!?? Oh there I go casting aspirations and judgements...
There's a lot more than that to the costs but £50 seems a lot, Newcastleton Sportive in a few weeks it's £20 or £35 to do both days.
Cheers for the reminder there Drac had forgotten about that event 🙂
See you there. No I'm not riding.
