My bottle mounts are on the bottom of the downtube, been looking at the Fidlock and Fabric cageless options as they look tidier when no bottle is on.
Someone I went riding with lost their Fabric bottle first time out, and there seems to be lots of similar tales so I think that ones out.
The Fidlock ones look great, but they don't seem to do a bottle with a protective cap over the teat, which is fairly vital due to the placement.
Has anyone swapped tops with another bottle? Or can measure the Fidlock bottle screw size?
Or any other solutions?
Fidlock have a "uni connector" that can be used with any water bottle, but it will be slightly higher profile than the dedicated bottle.
Id not bother with the Fabric down there, its all kinds of trouble. The Fidlock works great, really secure even with the big bottle although I've never run one on an underside. When I have a chance I will check the cap size, but since even that is a pretty rank way to carry a bottle have you considered the Fidlock boa mount - you could just use regular plastic water bottles (as in supermarket water) then, which would let you recycle them after use rather than having to clean off the dog poo....
I took a section of plastic milk bottle and wrapped it around the nozzle. Wrapped that in black tape, melted a hole through it and secured with string.
I run a fabric tool keg on the underside of the downtube and have only lost it once in nearly 3 years of riding (which was easily fixed). Great things and secure enough as long as you tighten the bolts more than you would for a cage. The extra makes the connector buldge a bit more and create a tighter fit.
That said, I'm temped to try the fidlock on the new bike as even less space is required to insert the bottle.
Is it really that hard for frame designers to think about a bloody bottle and accomodate it in the frame? I'd rather have a bit less standover.

Yes! Ordered this. Pretty much perfect solution. Means I'm not stressing about losing the dedicated bottle as well. Thanks for the help everyone.
I Used a set of Topeak alt-cage mounts as I had the same problem.
Used to run the Fabric bottle but it never felt intuitive, the fidlock one however is much easier to use.
I’m pretty sure a couple of my other tops fit the fidlock bottle too, I’ll check for you later.
Bizarrely, I went from a medium Mojo HD3, which took a bottle perfectly, to a large version of the same & the bottle mounts were too close to the seat tube & completely mis-aligned!

Been running a fabric bottle under my downtube albeit with an elastic gear strap just in case and not lost it yet, and the cap for a camelbak podium dirt bottle fits a treat.
I can confirm that the cap for a camelbak podium bottle also fits the Fidlock bottles.
Something to note with the Fidlock bottles: if you have a pump attached to the same bosses it might interfere with twisting the bottle to remove it.
