Currently building my wife a new bike post baby birth... Just trying to find saddles. Measured bones and the width is "slightly" wider than pre-birth!
We have normally gone with Specialized saddles (different widths available) in the past but just wondering if there are any others recommended by STW...?
Width comes up with 165mm so 185/190mm is recommendation from most online guides...
My wife likes the very cheap Brand-X Womens Cut-out saddle.
It's not light but it seems to work fine.
I've been after one of the above women's brand x saddles for yonks, but they've been OOS for months 🙁
It really is a case of trying some out, either borrow some, or maybe find a bike shop that will let you demo.
I tried a few but like the specialized range. I've heard good things about Selle Italia but never personally tried one.
Mrs kilo has Selle Italia on all her bikes bar one (this has a boardaman oe “mans” saddle on it so I think we can ignore that one)
My other half tried various WSD saddles, occasionally trying something new and they were usually pronounced "OK". Then she bought a second hand Yeti with an SDG Allure on it. After the first ride, she'd ordered another for her other bike, and has been happy ever since.
So, I think that it's just a case of trying as many as you can, but I'd recommend putting the above on your "to try" list.
We bought bikes back in 2010, where as I still mess about on bikes she has rarely sat on hers. A few months after jr number 3 was born it was still too painful for her to do more than a 5 miles or so and it put her off.
have tried to get her out these past few months but with no luck
So the Brand-X Womens Cut-out saddle is out of stock and the SDG Allure seems to be too thin. Any other suggestions...?
It's worthwhile doing a sit bone measurement test (don't laugh they are known as that) as shown in this video:
After doing this we chose an Ergon saddle for my wife's MTB
Have you seen this? https://singletrackmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/are-you-sitting-comfortably-a-guide-to-saddle-comfort/
I really like the Specialized women’s saddles. Another option is to very slightly point the nose of the saddle down. Not so much that you slip off the front of the saddle, just a wee bit down from horizontal.
Sit bone measurement test done (was recommended same video in fact by bike shop owner) and comes out as 185/190. Thanks Hannah - will share that video with my wife. Think we will try the specialized saddles (original plan), just wanted to see what else was available (will have a look at ergon as well).
I’ve got a specialised mimic (ok but personally I don’t think as great as the reviews indicate) and I’ve had selle italia diva which comes in 2 sizes. Personally I prefer the sdg allure but it comes up quite small I think.
Mrs Polisherman was "struggling with discomfort" a couple of years ago. Her Selle Italia which she'd used for years seemed to be not doing it's job.
Nose up, nose down. Forward on the rails etc... Bought and tried 3 or 4 different saddles. SDG, fabric etc. Even tried a bike fit. No joy
Eventually she solved the problem, and her original Selle Italia saddle went back onto...a new full sus bike, rather than her 26" Cotic Soul. Simples!
