Hey there. As the username suggest, I'm a hefty fella and, as a result, I like gears. I'm just speccing up a new bike with a 2×10 setup but I need to use short cranks due to a v. low bottom bracket.
To combat against that, I was thinking about running a 22 tooth granny ring with an 11-36 cassette. Problem though, Shimano's XT front mech seems to only handle granny rings down to 24 tooth.
SRAM's X0 mech seems to go down to 22 tooth but I don't know if it will run off a Shimano XT shifter (I've got Shimano brakes and want to use an I-spec shifter).
Does anyone have any idea of:
1. Whether a Shimano XT mech will take a 22 tooth granny?
2. Whether an SRAM X0 front mech will work with a Shimano XT shifter?
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Yes and yes.
Ah. Easy answer then. Get a 22 tooth granny. Stick it on. Just use the Shimano mech.
what outer ring do you plan,
up to 36 should be fine, but the mech wont like the jump from 22 to 38 for example
Is this one the latter 10x2 front mechs? Are they not designed for something like a 26/38 ring set up?
the old SLX 9x2 set up was 22/36 so one of those mechs might work better. The data sheets for them will tell you what the max range is.
