Looking at getting a fat bike for some coastal beach rides on very sandy beaches.
I'd getting sealed BB and hubs to try and maximise their life but was wondering how long I'd get out of the actual drive train?
I like the 1 x 10 SLX option but would a 9 speed be much more durable?
Anyone regularly ride on sand?

I ride either on beaches (mix of sand and gravel) or sandy / muddy sand forest trails. I've not had a problem with drivetrain longevity, in fact the current SRAM chain, specialised chainring and sunrace cassette 1 x 10 setup on my spesh fatboy are still going since last November despite average twice a week use in those conditions.
I'm not fastidious about cleaning either, but do give the bike a rinse off after beach rides, and always use Finish Line wet lube - which does attract crap sometimes but seems to do the job.
What didnt last though was the crap specialised BB and hubs. all replaced with Hope now for hope-fully better durability (excuse crap pun).
i always ride my steel fat bike on the beach. after 1 year it needed a new bb and a chain. cassette after a year and a few months. it you clean thoroughly after each ride, less than that. my dropper also still working well despite the sand. i am surprised however as i thought the sand would eat through everything
