What's one of the fastest rolling 29/2.25 tyres on the market these days ? Schwable Racing Ralphs ? WTB Rangers ?

Thanks

I've got the cheap version of race kings and even in that guise they're a very good tyre for going quick, just a shame they're too porous to gheto tubeless.

Great article. Looks like the Race King gets a top mark in that test. I was surprised how low they scored the Rocket Rons.

Can strongly recommend the Vittoria Mezcal G+.

Have been running them for about 18 months now on my xc bike inc local riding, South Downs Way and some endurance and short track xc racing

I did swap to a Morsa on the front through winter and for 24-12 last year for a bit more cornering grip but otherwise run both f&r.

Fast, pretty grippy even in wet conditions (on South Downs chalk mainly) and have worn well.

Went up tubeless very easily too.

If you regularly ride your MTB on a smooth, hard surface with lumps no taller than a couple of millimetres then that website is a really useful resource. Otherwise I’d take it with a pinch of salt.

FWIW, WTB Nine Lines are my fast-rolling 2.25” tyres for dry hardpack, but I’m very much a Budget Tyre Enthusiast (these are £8) so I’m sure there are better tyres out there.

+1

excellent tyre, easiest to mount tubeless tyre around, great sidewall protection.

I managed to get the Race King set up tubless on my last XC hard tail. They were indeed quite fast on smooth stuff, but the sidewall support was shocking. Felt like a bouncy castle at anything below 30psi+.

I've got a couple of Maxxis Ikon on my Spark at the moment. No grip in anything remotely wet though, so I'll probably change them after summer (if we have one!).

Thunder Burts are super fast. Weirdly grippy in cornering (they've still got some side knobs at least), it's braking where I find them lacking, but you adjust.
