I've a chunky monkey and smorgasbord fitted to the bike at the moment. They actually don't feel that draggy if I'm honest. But I'm doing the west highland way and want to eek out a bit more efficiency. I was thinking about a rock razor or minion ss out back, but I'm really not up to speed with today's tyre offerings. Any suggestions for a 29er? Not wanting to dip back into xc tyres either. Older bike (gen1 horsethief) so nothing huge either.

Edit, clearance isn't too bad.

I'd probably stick with what you have, but yeah a Rock Razor is a good shout if you do want to put something a bit quicker on the back.

Minion SS or Specialized Slaughter, which ever can be had for best price! Think the Slaughter might be slightly tougher.

Alternatively: "yes. tyres." I haven't even got a 29er.

unless anything has changed I would avoid the paper thin walled Rock Razor in 29.

The Slaughter on the other hand is fantastic. Tough and fast. I've done 24 hour rides on it and it didn't let me down. And can be had for £20 on Specialized's website (or could last month!)

Love my slaughter. Great tires, and cheap.

Cheers all, I'd only gave the specialized line a cursory glance in the past. Slaughter ordered 👍. I'll have a look at the smorgasbord when I take it off and may run that up front.
