Have the following on my bike
Maxxis High Roller II TR 27.5" x 2.6" 120TPI, EXO Sidewall Protection, 3C Maxx Terra, Front, Maxxis Rekon TR 27.5" x 2.6" 60TPI, EXO Sidewall Protection, Rear
These are what came on the bike from new, are they class as fast rolling or am I just unfit? Is fast rolling tyres a thing in this larger size? If there is somthing better out there for xc, trail centre, all round use in 27.5 2.6 I would like to hear about it.
Thanks
I wouldn't class either as fast rolling, particularly the HR. The fast rolling tyres I've seen tend to have the centre knobs set up such that they effectively become a continuous central band.
I've a Vittoria Mezcal in 2.6" that has this and it fairly zips along but the rest of the tread is pretty shallow as well and I've no idea how it would stand up to rock gardens or the like so can't comment on the sidewall protection.
Default response: Specialized Slaughter Grid
They are what came on my whyte all be it in 2.8.
I replaced the high roller with a magic Mary on the front as I’m generally not keen on them but I find the Rekon rolls fairly well once you are off road and you don’t particularly notice the Mary on the front.
Needless to say on road they are horrendous.
I imagine maybe a trail boss might roll a bit better as the knobs are pretty closely spaced but on the whole the Rekon isn’t a bad general option for the rear and potentially the front as long as it was dry.
Rock Razor 2.6 maybe, with something else up front?
Rekon is very fast as rear tyre already, only Slaughter/Minion SS or similar are faster. Spec Ground Control in 2.6" worked quite well in the rear even if side knobs are bit too small but it might be suitable for front tyre.
Having tried a few 2.6" tyres they are all terrible on the road but off road there doesn't seem to be much difference to 2.3" trail tyres in rolling resistance but grip is better on rocks and roots.
That's a pretty good combo for what you describe- they're not super fast but they're grippy and pretty fast. A semislick like the others mentioned would be faster still at the expense of rear braking- if you've not tried it, it's worth a go, I love mine.
Front depends entirely on how much grip you want. Like for me, I don't go less than a minion these days because it'd only be a matter of time til I tried to do a corner like I had a minion on, and I'd be pretty annoyed about that after the crash, I'm just too used to good grip. But you might get on fine with less.
I just did 24ish road miles on a Specialized Eliminator front and Slaughter rear, I thought the bike rolled petty well. I'd decided I wouldn't drive to ride, the tyres worked pretty well on the trails when I got there too.
Can't make my mind up between the Rock Razor or slaughter.
2.6 DHF 3C front, Rekon 2.6 EXO rear. Works for me. 2.6 tyres aren’t really going to ever be fast rolling though, are they?
Ditto what's been said above about your current combo not being too bad. The only thing I'd suggest would be to put an ardent race on the back for a bit more speed.
Thanks for the input, understand with the bigger tyres they ain't going to be great but if what I have isn't too bad I'll keep as is and I just man up abit!

It's all relative. I'm running 2.8 rather than 2.6 on a Sonder Transmitter, currently with a Minion DHF up front and a Rekon+ out back. When I first got the bike, or rather the rear wheel, it had a WTB Trailblazer at the rear which was a horrible tyre, more like 2.6" in size, but pretty quick. Was using a Nobby Nic 2.6 up front, which was quicker, I think than the Minion DHF I have now. I also tried a Scwhwalbe Rocket Ron, I think, 2.8 out back which was fast, but fragile. Eventually I ended up with the DHF / Rekon combo.
I don't think it's particularly fast, somewhere in the middle really and nowhere near as quick as the Trailblazer (yes, otherwise awful) or the Rocket Ron. If you want quicker and Maxxis, a 2.6 Ikon would probably do it. I'm going to stick a 2.6 Rock Razor on the back as soon as I've killed the Rekon. It's the combo - DHf / Rock Razor - I run as default and I've always found it a nice mix of front-end grip and rear end speed as long as it's not too gloopy out.
Yes, that is a fast rolling combo. But are also both undersize and a very good weight. You're unlikely to find a better pedalling pair of tyres labelled up as "2.6" … this all points to something else about the new feeling sluggish… is it a full suss bike? What have you done to set it up?
Those of you on 2.6 - do you lose much/any BB height going from 2.8 to 2.6?
It depends which tyres you're comparing. Real world sizing is all over the place.
I'd be thinking maybe 2.6 Rock Razor verus 2.8 Rekon?
Very little in it, probably. The 2.8 Rekon+ is undersized (I'm using one in place of a WTB 2.6 TrailBoss), where as Schwalbe tend to size up correctly, if not big (although I've not seen a 2.6 Rock Razer yet).
Cool, thanks
Going back to this. Just brought a voodoo bizango 29er, stuck some racing Ralph on and can't believe how much easier it is which had brought me back onto the tyres on my t130. I love the grip on my 2.6 tyres but 90% of my riding is xc/trail. Has any one used schwalbe rocket Ron or rock razor? They look fast rolling
Vittoria Mezcal is a very fast and light tyre for the size.
The vittoria Mezcal in this size seems to get good feedback, I have used the 2.35 a lot and really like it - fast rolling with great grip and the 2.6 version has scaled up blocks too for a bit of extra bite.

Just taken mine off, because of slash that Stan's wouldn't heal confirming to me other reports of fragility.
Light and fast yes, although scary in the wet IME.
How come no-one seems to mention the WTB range, some of which look like good candidates?
I think the WTB Trail Blazers are fast rolling, but they’re 2.8’s
I like the look of those Vittoria Mezcals, thanks for the tip.
I have a Conti X-King 2.35 on the back, it's nice and quiet but does tend to slip out uphill on loose, dry surfaces … which is pretty much 'gravel' defined.
I have just set up a non-boost 650b hardtail with 2.6 DHF 3C front and an Aggressor 2.5 DD rear. The Aggressor is supposed to be fast rolling and it feels it on the trail.
I found the bike felt sluggish on a short bit of road I was on today, but this could be a host of other things I have not set up properly, including: rubbing rear brake caliper, too little air in the tyres (I am 85kg and have around 15 PSI in the tyres, which I am not sure if enough/acceptable), the fact that this is my third ride in three days, I was inpatient and ordered the rear tyre in DD rather than regular casing as they had it in stock at a good price.
