I have Nobby Nics (not the current tread I think, and significantly narrower than the 29+ Bontragers on munrobiker's Stache) tubeless and they feel draggy (but I think were fairly light).
What's going to be quicker? CRC have some discounted WTBs that look about right...
Panaracer FatBnimbles are a "faster" tyre. However they lack grip. I bought them as my first B+ tyre but replaced them as we were hitting winter. I kept them on the premise I might use them in summer or for a more road/gravel oriented bikepacking trip but they're still in the garage if you're interested.
Edit: I've been using 3.0" Nobby Nics and don't reckon they feel too bad. Quite a good compromise I'd say. I also have some 2.8" Bontrager XR4 Teams to fit when the NNs are past it. I have XR4s on two other MTBs and really like them.

There's a 2.8 Schwalbe fast tyre that's flimsy as, avoid. Maxxis does a 2.8 |ikon, not used it.
I'd keep the NN up front and stick a quick tyre out back.
Maxxis Ikon+ is nice and fast, not particularly suitable for this time of year, for which I swap to a rekon on the back. Rocket rons are also fast but more fragile than the maxxis offerings.
Isn't it more a question of slow vs. horrendously slow with B+ tyres?
I enjoy riding mine, but would not recommend a 2.8 HR2 on the rear if you're in a hurry to get anywhere.
Ikon+ rear, Rekon+ front for 3 seasons. Swap rekon+ to rear and add dhr2 up front for Scottish winter.
Ikon actually handles wet conditions pretty well, but have little bite for soft or boggy ground.
I use the Rekon and the Ranger as fast rolling rear tyres. What do you want to know?

Not really, I'd say that things that aren't heavily treaded run surprisingly quickly off road, particularly on the sort of light chunder that smaller tyres sort of hook up on. Not great on tarmac, but not that bad either.

It’s a great tyre at trail centres. And cheap. And not a chore on tarmac etc, if you have to hit the roads to get to your local trails.
Ranger on the rear is great. Ranger on the front is one of the most terrifying cycling experiences of my MTB life...
I pair a Ranger rear with either a 2.8 Minion DHF or Vigilante on the front. Minion grips like fornication and isn't as draggy as you'd expect. Vigilante isn't quite as grippy but isn't quite as draggy.
Ranger on the front? Never, ever. Paired with a Vigilante up front here as well.
And my Rekon is paired with a DHF up front.

I've ran both these combos and currently on the WTB one as I wanted a dual-ply rear. It's irritating that Maxxis doesn't offer the 2.8 Rekon in Doubledown flavour.
I've got this at the moment, what's a better combo for winter?
Maxxis Minion DHF 2.6 3C/TR (FR) Rekon 2.6 3C/TR (RR)
I'm running Vittoria Bomboloni 27.5 x 3 which seem to have reasonable sidewalls and roll well. I could do with buying something more suitable for winter and am undecided on whether to buy a more aggressive 27.5 x 3 for the front or a pair of more aggressive 2.6 or 2.8 tyres.
I've not been riding much recently as life has got in the way but there ground is so wet here in Lancs that a Bomboloni up front may result in a trip to the dentist!
Ranger was way faster than HR2 for me, but still way slower than the 29er wheels.
Maybe unfair to compare though?
29X2.6 Rock Razor on rear & have run a Hans Dampf 29X2.6 speed grip on front & 29X2.6 NN speed grip on the front both been a quick setup for summer
None of those are b+ tyres though 🙄.
Been running ranger rear and NN front, both 3.0, for a year now and it's a good combo. Would never dream of running a ranger up front.
Bridger front works nicely with a ranger rear for me.
+1 for 2.8" rekon, I have a Minion DHR for proper clart but that is like dragging a tractor tyre behind you.
Hi just built a set of b+ wheels up and I have ranger light high grip 3 inch front and rear. I've used them a few times and they do feel quick on the surfaces I mainly ride which is a mixture of sandy stuff and tarmac with canal towpath to link it up. I see most of you say the ranger is a no no on the front is that just in muddy conditions? I have my full fat wheels to drop back in for winter but got a trip to degla next week and was intending to run the skinny set up and my full face by the looks of it😁😁
I was seriously impressed with the Vee tire Crown Gems that came stock on my phone mountain. I did a 80 mile trip on them that was 50% tarmac and they didn't feel draggy at all. Bitch to setup tubeless though!
Thanks all. I got some Rangers and am surprised that the NNs are barely any heavier. I may for the 2.8 a shot on the rear (it's a 29er frame and 3 is too wide).
