Had a bit of a lateral conrol failure on take off due to snow and ice on a big table. Landed to the right of the landing and got bucked over the bars in to a tree. Hit it vertically, upside down, spine first. Apparently the crack of my body armour / helmet hitting the tree was heard a few hundred yards away.

Coughed up some blood and got Ambulanced to A&E - couldnt get me to the air ambulance coz of the snow / ice and steep slope - so no free helichopper ride for me.
Few burst blood vessels in lungs, popped my hip in and out and damaged my lower back - was told the the spine protector on my body armour was pretty much the only reason im not having metal in my spine.

Still cant really walk - managed 15 agonising feet this morning on crutches, might be a day or two before im back on the bike... 🙂

Now got to phone my gaffer and tell him im not in on monday, a year to the day after i had to phone him to say i wouldnt be in as i had broken my collarbone...

Am not looking forward to this conversation, wish me luck.

where's this tabletop? over on the DH tracks?

i would send healing vibes but the amount of broken bits on me would make the fairly week.

That is Cannock Chase's number freeride God, dontchaknow.

Hope you heal quickly, sounds like a nasty accident that could have been a lot worse.

Of course some would say body armour is overkill for mtbing. 🙄
