As per the title, which bike should I take?
I gather the area is flat so a road bike might be more fun when solo opportunities arise but would the general cycle trails be too rough for it on family outings up to 10 miles?

I went to the Vendee a few years back but only took the road bike so can't really give a great comparison and didn't take much notice of what was on offer off-road. We were staying in the region near the town of Chantonnay.

Some great roads there with much rolling countryside. The countryside and road riding around the lake at Mervent were fantastic though with some stiffish climbs if that appeals to you. There might well be some trails in that area as it is very forested too.

Was there about a month ago. Good road riding. As previous post, plenty of tracks in the forest near Mervent - mostly hardpack type stuff. Might be ok for a road bike with fatter tyres on as long as you're not too precious about your wheels!
