Can anyone recommend family friendly cycle routes accessible from SW London (have car) suitable for me, the wife and 5 year old son? Ideally the route would be:
- Traffic free
- Circular
- <10 miles
Current favourites are Alice Holt, Richmond Park and Horton Country Park. Thanks 🙂
Just over the border into Berks but Swinley has plenty of fireroad as well as the supergnarly trails and your 5yo might enjoy the green. A bit of elevation in places but bring a strap as a towrope if necessary.
Or park up at Bramley south of Guildford and do the Downslink. Disused railway so pan flat and a decent offroad surface. It's not circular is the only box not ticked
If you go south of Horton Country Park into Newton Wood there's lots of tracks and you can link up to Princess Coverts and Great Bookham Common relatively easily. Just come in that way from a mixed surface ride out to Ranmore and back.
For a family friendly less busy alternative to Richmond Park there's nearby Bushy Park. Big enough with plenty to see such as deer, ponds/lakes, and features like the Diana Fountain and the Upper Lodge Water Gardens.
You could also take in nearby Hampton Court Palace and the towpath by the Thames, both easily accessible traffic free from Bushy Park.
Car parks in Bushy Park reopen on 14 July. Bushy Park info: https://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/bushy-park?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7LbV88rH6gIViZntCh033Q68EAAYASAAEgLbifD_BwE
Thanks folks, some nice ideas there.
You can also link Bushy Park and the Thames Path round Hampton Court with Home Park. Â Is less well known than Bushy and just over the road. Â Main entrance is near the Hampton Wick side of Kingston Bridge and there are a couple of gates out onto the Thames path.
I also intend to explore the Esher Common area properly too once I get my gravel bike off the trainer.
