Not been down their since the end of November in places it makes it really light and bright few of the Dowies are out at present the two with the jumps in are still their Bluebell well dry and fast young lad said Shutcastle is also felled never went over their great conditions down their do live in the same county as the Forest just case people get funny!!!
I was only talking about dowies and shutcastle tonight. I live over the river so although it’s only a few miles as the crow flies it’s probably not really local! Might take Monday off and head over though. Gutted though as I fancied a bit of shutcastle
Larch disease plus FE being mad for timber sales atm.
That is one long sentence!
I suppose Stroud valleys to the FoD is sort of local. I'm waiting until the 29th.
Yeah @sgn23 I can see parts of the fod from Dursley but it’s a stretch for me to justify riding there. Although I have been working in Monmouth most of the winter!
If we don’t get too much rain this week I will head over on the 29th
We’re all preparing for the massive influx of people, but given how wet the winter was, it’s probably good there was months of lockdown as the trails would have been trashed.
Doeys has a couple of trails running now, but there is a lot of logs & scrub around. Shutcastle looks fine from the top but all the trails are blocked at the bottom and are actively still felling in there with heavy machinery.
This last few weeks has been absolutely prime conditions. The little bit of rain this week won’t hurt it I don’t think. Even some of the less known summer only trails have been spot on, in March!
It's a working forest, they plant 'em, they cut 'em down.

It's been amazing. Some of the really secret local gold has been utterly fantastic, super loamy, lovely fresh cut corners, steep chutes running gorgeously. My skills have rocketed recently thanks to the hero dirt here!
Just been out (not in the felled areas as it happens),bloody lovely !
Looking forward to getting back to it soon. Sad that so many took the piss with travelling and riding in groups. But can’t wait to get back out on it now
Out in the day today & they were definitely still active at the bottom of where most of the Shutcastle trails pop out out, so would think that's a no go for a while yet. I'll go for a run through there with the dog tomorrow.
But yes, in other news, the trails are running at a level of perfection right now. I'll be making the most of it before we're over-run 🙂
When I did the Bluebell trail then went back up to the Dowies they were unloading a great monster of a tree felling machine first time I have been down there since November part lockdown part rubbish winter this lockdown they never shut the car parks which was odd maybe they did not want to give you the extra two months like last time as said above great conditions will go down there again tomorrow as I have this week off car parks are quiet will not be like it next week.

Dursley chap, oh yes to the 29th
I'm down in this neck of the woods this week and always fancied FoD.
I've always been a bit unsure of how the rules are interpreted for when working away from home, I'm not 100% on the English rules. So would I be braking most importantly rule#1, then the Covid rules if I popped along from Stroud on Saturday?
If STW gives the all clear, where's running well?
If you need to ask, don't you already know the answer?
I maybe do already know the answer, but due to being between 2 accomodation locations and check in / check out times, I'll probably end up going a walk somewhere so figured a bike ride is no worse than a walk, but let's not go down that debate again.
I've not ridden the PAB side since late last year. All our riding has been at Staunton (and yes it is local to me!). Trails there are running superbly. Pretty much hero dirt. Lots of MX tracks tho, always a bit of an issue on that side but seems to be a lot worse this year.
Shame about Shutcastle. It's not the first time it's been heavily logged tho. Trail pixies will get back in there and reinstate the lines. Anybody been up to Staple Edge lately? Avoided it last year as it was so busy.
I'd be interested in a Stroud tour when the time is right, what's the riding like?
I’ve got a far as selsley from Dursley but not dropped down in to Stroud or nailsworth yet. Would be very keen to explore further though. Lots and lots around Dursley/nibley. But that’s a bit thread hijack isn’t it?!
Some good stuff around Stroud. Currently Randwick/Standish Woods has quite a few DH runs. Not hugely long but in recent times the tracks have multiplied in numbers and there's a pretty good selection to suit all abilities
Went down there today again bit of rain not much made a good job of the historic tramway cleared either side of that you can see well up the valley the track behind Beechinghurst has gone do not know what that is called Lawn mover trails fine not so many people about today cycling if your in the same county can not see what is wrong with that when all the car parks are open not been in Standish woods for years is that metal safe still dumped there?? need to go over to Staunton again not been over there in years.
PM me if you want to have a look around Randwick guys.
