So the autumn is on us and the grimness of the winter is nigh, so to be be able to see the trails what is best for protecting my eyes from
Mud, rain, grit, rain, wind, and does not fog up.
Goggles or old fashion glasses. Recommendations please.
Oh for sartorial consideration I ride a fat bike fully rigid, over 50 and nay endurrroooo
Defo google then… 🤣
I shouldn't laugh, I also ride a rigid fat bike and am closer to 50 that I'd like. I wear glasses, but have been planning on using my old OTG skiing googles for when it gets bad. Haven't worn them out yet, as the weather hasn't been bad enough, but I've tried them on and I look like a proper nobber. 🤔
bolle countours for me - the slightly tinted ones. £8 a pop. clear ones available for night time should you require.
whenyou are putting the effort in and are hot and sweaty and then stop for jellybabys pretty much anything will steam up.
i`m quite enduro. sometimes i use googles but not for XC.
i got a a pinetree branch in the face on saturday. I think i have scratched my cornea. So yes i'll be goggling up next time.
EWS ones, of course

I normally wear glasses but have noticed that even the slight pressure on the bit behind my ears seems to lead to quite a lot of discomfort, goggles don’t do this so I’m a bit torn!
Oakley copies, with RX inserts - have to wear glasses, but my everyday ones don't offer enough eye protection.
Bolle contours here as well. I wear the clear ones year round as I wear contacts. Cheap as chips so if they get scratched it’s no biggy. A pair will normally last a year but I’m not particularly careful with them..
Chinese Oakley Jawbreaker from Ali Express. £8 with various lenses!
Oakley half jackets. Anything else I've tried just steams up.
I get a couple of pairs of glasses annually from Goggles 4u or similar. Normally on a two for one offer and normally about £40 delivered for the two. They will steam up but I don't care if they get trashed unlike my daily glasses.
The ones I've got now look awful but have good coverage and transition, only problem is they don't fully transition to clear any more which is interesting for night riding!
Looked into the goggle inserts but it worked out too expensive at the time and can't climb in goggles without them steaming up which means trails with a mix of up and down means a lot of stopping.

I find goggles fog up a lot in wet, rainy weather. So much so that I am going with the comedy glasses in full face look at the moment when racing....
+1 Bolle Contours. Cheap, just buy loads of them. Got clear for night, the ESP type for most days, and sunglass ones for bright sunny days (though riding in woods I find they don't get used so much as too dark in tree cover).
Keep goggles for full face stuff unless you want to go Full Enduro and have all the matching gear.
Has anyone tried the Bolle ESP lenses? They claim the filter blue light for increased contrast - could be good if they dont block too much light..
I've not tired blue filters but I've tried amber lenses to improve contrast. They work incredibly well for me, in fact unless its very dull they make it too bright to be comfortable.
Currently riding in some Decathlon photochromic glasses, £22.50, just about clear enough to ride in at night although I try and avoid it. They do seem to get horrible glare when riding into the sun though.

Fox Main used to be the stock answer to that question, no idea if anything newer/better has come along.
I have crap eyesight so have to use a prescription lens of some kind when riding. I have Bolle Field glasses with photcromatic lens, which I use for most sports. They are OK if I'm either not putting out much heat (either pootling or uplift riding) or riding non-stop so the heat is dispersed by the airflow, otherwise as soon a I stop they steam up. Unfortunately I'm yet to find any glasses that don't.
As an alternative I find myself using contact lenses and googles more often, I can pop the googles up on my helmet whe climbing and getting hot but still have the benefit of keeping the wind and mud out my eyes when descending.

100% Accuri's are fairly cheap, mine came with a spare clear lens too.
I bought some Thor ones from SportPursuit for £12.99... they're a really good fit on my wide nose, but I haven't worn them riding yet. Bought for BPW trips, as they were so cheap. (only Pink left in stock by the look of it.)
My lad has some 100% Accuri - the lenses scratched up pretty quickly, but the replacements are good value.
Googles for maximal shreddage. In contrasting colours.
