I've been riding a bit more of late and my fitness is definitely improving, but I'm finding after every ride I have an intense desire to have a nap. Any ideas what could be causing that? I'm working hard, but not that hard...road rides around 50 miles, or three hour off road sessions.

I'm around 40, drink loads of water on the bike and eat close to iDave. And I don't have much booze.

Embrace the nap, it will help with recovery - either that or lack of sugar (not sure what iDave is)

Nowt wrong with having a post ride snooze. I normally have some food after getting back, get cleaned up, sit in front of the tv and need to have a nap. I think its perfectly normal

What's your weekly schedule? If I possibly can, I enjoy getting my feet up for a rest after a ride.

Are you fueling up adequately ?
50 road miles is no mean feat and 3 hours off road must be nearing 30 miles at least ?

Loads of info on here about scoffing, you need to top up with snap whilst still riding and then a good feed afterwards.
As above your body will be repairing and your blood sugars could also be low.

If you need a nap have one, but look at supplementing something I don't mean start taking protein shakes and that kind of shit but you need to add something in to your ride to prop your energy level up.

Love it - an excuse to scoff more!

iDave is the iDiet referred to on here - lowish carb and low sugar.

Night, night y'all, I'm off to snooze.

I would have thought enough protein, but perhaps not carbs - not a pasta fan. But there again carbs at lunch make me want to snooze too. Might well be something with blood sugars?

There's your answer then,

Either that or your occupying your time ?

Do you finish each ride with a celebratory.. You know.. 😉

That might make you feel sleepy?

After a hard or long daytime ride I often have a nap or feel like I need one.

Conversely after a fun, fast night ride I have real trouble relaxing and getting off to sleep. Once asleep I don't sleep well either.

Agree with Simon re the dodgy sleep. Any tips for combatting this?

The "iDiet" isn't low carb, it's low GI carb, and I think it allows sugary goodness pre/during exercise

I don't think your diet is helping the situation and I would suggest a bit of reading around the types of food you need for the amount of work you are doing.

That said, my super fit 26 year old son regularly takes a nap when he gets back from pretty much any ride over 40 miles.

Me, I stuff my face with cake and coffee, then have a boiling hot bath or shower.

maybe write down exactly what you eat during the day, especially before, during and after riding (with times, amount of food etc )
