I've just bought an Adventure AT3 trailer for my daily commute hibred bike (a GT Transeo). The QR skewer on the back end isn't long enough to go through the back wheel and the AT3 hitch. I've been to my LBS and he says that QR skewers are a standard length and I'd have to effectively have a new wheel with a basic bolt through hub!

Does anyone know where I can get an extra long skewer? It only needs to be about 10mm longer than the one I have!

I know the special skewer that EBC use for their trailers is longer than most. It's got the trailer hitch on it, but it could work?

Or try SJS Cycles, they do a natty line in odd bits and bobs!

I could measure/photo my EBC skewer if you like? How long does it need to be for you?

Well, the one I have is 168mm for the full shaft including the threaded bit.

How about a tandem skewer? Would that work?

Thanks Peter. Its a real bummer. My 5-year old came to my office from her school expressly so I could take her home in her new trailer 🙁

.
salsas are a bit longer.or contact trailer manuf.
pitlocks are longer as well.
or some tandem qr.go up to 160 or so.
you don't need a new wheel(if it's shimano).
you can put a solid axle in there.
edit-i'm so slow.

Don't suppose you have a measurement to hand do you? I guess I'd need about 180mm.

I cut mine right down so it'd be a bit pointless measuring it.

Just been and measured the salsa QR on my fatbike with a 170mm rear end and that's just over 200mm long. 😯

About 179mm
As you can see it's got the blobs on for the EBC trailer, but you could easily screw another normal QR nut on and cut the blob off the other end. Under £10 from EBC last time I bought one, but that was in the store...

I thought Shimano made various length QRs not just front and rear . Failing that Trek use an extra long skewer on the back of their fuel and top fuel bikes , the nut is captive but you could easily use the nut off your existing QR .

A lot of non-Shimano skewers have screw on levers, allowing the rod to be replaced with a cut to length section of 5mm stainless studding.

Mmm. This is going to be tricky. Could anyone point me to a weblink for a skewer that they know will be long enough? Are EBC a Canadian company?

You get a long one with a Chariot trailer, so I'd imagine you'd get one of their spares. SJS would be a good shout for that.

To be honest I might have a spare as I use a Maxle on mine, but the wee one is asleep in the room with all the bike stuff. I'll check tomorrow.

Thanks Brycey. I'll obviously pay you handsomly! Let me know and if not, I'll speak to SJS and get something ordered from them. Will also check EBC in the meantime.

Could try a trek dealer - the rear sqewer is longer due to the abp pivot
