I was fitting a 10spd xt cassette to my new from the Evans sale wheel and it didnt fit. There was a great deal of play in it and not knowing why, typed out an enormously long post about older hope enduro wheels, 12spd cassettes, 12 speed freehubs, 11spd freehubs, 10spd cassettes, position of spacers, microspline, shimano and sram , lockrings etc, and just before pressing SUBMIT, decided to try it again.

I'd incorrectly fitted the last cog 😳
So before making a complete tit of yourself, try any mechanical problems one last time 😆

I once typed an extra long post, with pictures, about how the 30 y.o. touring frame I was building up had different brake boss positions on the stays compared to the forks. brakes were fine on the front, below the rim on the back. I'd forgotten I'd just dropped the back wheel on the notch between rack stays and seatstays to get it off the floor!

One piece cassettes is the way ahead for you, leave shimano behind and see the light.

That was like me when I bought the missus a new SLX cassette after having never replaced one. I nearly binned all the spacers thinking they were just plastic!! Then realised without the there was no gap between the cogs! 🤣
