I have 2 mtbs both with sram one sx one gx. the GX bike (whyte t130) has a 42 tooth biggest ring on cassette, the SX has 51 or maybe 50. went to swap the wheel with bigger cassette into the whyte and not the range with mech on the whyte. Measured the cages and the two mechs are different lenghts

I want to be able to use the larger cassette on both bikes depending on what and where I am riding, what is the easiest way to do this, can i use some sort of goat link type of adaptor and if so anyone know which one will work with sram mechs?

thanks in advance

Its hit and miss. I went straight from 42t to 50t with my gx. Runs sweet with no issues. But its outside spec.

Bought 2 other GX 11sp mechs and the details only referenced 11-42 range but again, 50T cassette and no issues at all.

Try it. If it works it works. Job done. If you cant shift properly or cant get enough clearance with get b-screw or chain is too flappy in smallest cog then new cage or mech.

Sunrace publishes a compatibility chart for their cassettes. GX is listed as a possible. So as it says, try it. Might work.

And i found the goatlink adapter actually made things worse. Chain too slack in 11t whilst OK on 50T.

You dont want the mech on full extension forward when in 50t but as long as the chain isnt hitting jockey wheels in 11t you should be ok. Not perfect, but my set up like that runs SOOOOOO much nicer than a within tolerance shimano setup.

You’ll need different chains though….no way you’ll be able to switch directly from 42t to 50t ride to ride. Needs completely different chain length and b-screw. A couple of teeth different could be passible. But not 8t different.

But then why would you need to? 11-50 has you covered so if you dont need the 50t you dont use it! But its there as a get out of jail.

And unless you have same brand hubs, there’s a fairly high probability that you’ll need to reset caliper alignment and mech end stops which makes’ I’ll just swap wheels between bikes” an even bigger PITA.

I gave up and just bought a 50T cassette and had done with it.

Definitely sounds like the T130 is 11 speed, so unless you change that bike to 12 speed, you can't share wheel/cassette
