I'm thinking of switching up. Anyone done similar and was it worth it? Mainly nightime gravel, offroad stuff and linking road sections to and from. A rigid 29er so need good illumination to pick my lines downhill!
Thanks

I had a Mk2 Six-pack (1925 lumens) and borrowed a 2020 Race. It was as good if not better than the six pack and the march of time obviously meant you got the same/better output in a smaller package. I'd imagine you'd notice the difference on full blast or you'd have a similar output with longer runtimes.

As it happens I've just replaced my six-pack with an MTB Batteries Lumenator. I know a lot of people would think that was a crazy move but the six-pack was a big old lump on the bars and I rarely ride anywhere without a framebag so an external battery is no hassle.

The lumenator also being £120 instead of £200+ for a similar performance from exposure was also a factor, along with the ease of carrying a spare battery for riding right through the night.

@johnnystorm - that lumentor looks interesting and (for the most part) I also run a frame bag/bar bag on the bikes I'd use this on. Another option to ponder, though as have Exposure mounts on all the bikes it's tended to be a no-brainer go-to option in tge past.

@luv2ride
Yeah, as far as "hard" mounts go, the Exposure is the best of the bunch. A big factor for me was the use of a jones bar with a bag in it and my old six pack went right over the loop and obscured the bag which the Lumenator doesn't. It's also easier to "dip" the lumenator by pointing it down when in the road

I've paired mine with the MTBB Lumen 800 and for an extra £12 upgraded the L800 battery to one that would also run the Lumenator if required. To be honest, on the road the L800 is probably plenty on it's own!

On of my mates just picked up the magic shine 3000 torch and it’s a great bit of kit
His mrs has the 2400 torch from CRC and the light quality from the 3000 dwarfs the 2400 by a big amount
I know it’s another 600 lumens but just the quality of the light and pattern of the beam and it’s only £135
Defo looks a good deal
He also has that 8000 light
Holy shit that thing will light up a whole hill side

It's a similar issue for me, though the Exposure hard mount on the front loop means the (jones) bag doesn't sit right. Hadn't considered it overhanging the bag as got this £6 extender from Amazon that sits more flush, and elevates the light a bit. Fugly though!

I used one of those extenders on my Fargo as the front harness would block the light. That brought out another issue with a big six-pack. Hitting a big lump on a descent and the whole thing pointing at the floor plunging me into darkness!

My exposure mount has also worn a hole in my Jones bag. 🙁

If you don't mind external batteries, one of these might be a good option for £129:

https://www.jejamescycles.com/product/46753/moon-moon-aw20-canopus-front-light/option/

I bought one as I wanted some extra light and I was getting a bit paranoid about my solarstorm cheapies burning the house down when on charge. I've only used it for one shortish ride so far, but it's ridiculously bright. I thought the remote was a big of a gimmick, but it actually works well - you can have it on a low setting not to blind everyone on road sections, then double tap for full power. The main unit uses garmin style quarter turn mounts (and it comes with an outfront styly handlebar clamp), and the helmet mounting kit included looks to include a gopro style mount adaptor, so there's plenty of options available.

They're only on the Mk 12 Toro, not 15.

I own the Mk8 and it's good for quite fast, technical MTBing - but I do have to use a helmet light with it because it's relatively spotty (and you need a helmet light for tech riding anyway).

I would expect the Mk 15 to be better in light & battery terms, but it may still have the same beam pattern. But then your existing one probably has too?
