Anyone had a problem fitting the clamp to their handlebars. Just recently got hold of a Strada MK5 and I couldn't get the clamp on the bars. The bike is a stock 2013 Giant Defy 5 which I bought as a winter/training bike, the bars are Giants own 26mm, I put the two hard plastic spacers on the bars (I have to hold them on or they fly off)then fit the clamp around them but it wont close enough to allow the bolt to engage in the threads. On the carbon 25.4mm bars on my mtb it fits fine Spoken to Exposure about it and they have never heard of this and suggested shaving off some of the plastic from the plastic spacers! So with a bit of plastic tube and some sand paper wrapped around it I gave it a go,finally managed to rub away enough of the plastic to allow the bolt to engage in the threads and mount the bracket.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem? Cheers
SO, the tube is a larger diameter than the clamp is designed to fit and it is was a surprise that it didn't?
All ok now though...
I lost the plastic shim and bodged it on 25.4mm bars with a few layers of cut up innertube and electrical tape over the to to keep it all still.
I expect the same would work for other less-than-31.8mm bar diameters. (anyone else remember the short-lived 28.6 mountain bike bar clamp "standard"?)
The bracket is designed to fit bars 25.4-31.8, even exposure said it should fit 26mm bars ok, I was just a bit puzzled as to why it wouldn't fit.
the old design one piece clamp spacer was better for this.
