I'm thinking of getting the 8.7mAh support / piggy back cell for extending the ride time on my Mk10 Maxx-d.

As the battery on that is 11600 mAh and lasts for about 11 hours on medium power setting in Mode 6, by reason this cell should add another 8 hours in that mode?

Does anyone have any experience of using them

I've used them. They work. Irritatingly they use the Smart Port, so you can't also use a handlebar remote at the same time. You need to use them from the off for them to to work effectively. And they're expensive for what they are, although they're pretty.

On the down side, one of the main attractions of the Exposure lights is the lack of a separate battery pack. And I'm not overly convinced that the small bore cable and spindly connector would survive extended regular use - I only use mine very occasionally. They're way smaller than the Lumicycle equivalent fwiw.

Smudge at mtb batteries can build you one for quite a bit less.

Why do you need so much burn time?

Yeah, you'll need c 14hrs of lights. I'm also not convinced that the connector is up to much in the way of heavy rain either as there is no o-ring or any other kind of sealing. I could be wrong, but all other external battery lights have good seals at this point. Maybe a wrap or 2 of electrical tape would help. Your best bet would be 2 maxx-ds. Borrow/hire another?

I was thinking that, might be easier in the long run. What's the return policy at CRC 🙂

i have a three cell .

they are pretty hardy , mines been used for 10 years on and off for events(mainly strathpuffer) and long ITT'S. I use it powering a joystick on my head on max throughout so theres no farting about powering up and down.

I like it - it just works.

Am I missing something here... can you not just put a usb/Exposure lead to the light with any battery pack?

I've an Anker PowerCore 10000 which supplies 5v. I've used it to charge the Joystick though I've not used it as a piggy back battery.

I run one of the 8.4 support cells with the Equinox I have as a bar light. I bought the light ex demo & the already short listed burn times were down even lower; on the full power 2000 lumen setting the light in its own would give approx 30 min but with the support cell I can easily get 2 hours. Just done a 3 hour ride with it, mixing between full blast & one notch down and it still has some life left in it.

Its slightly annoying that you lose one of the main usp of Exposure, that being cable free design but it’s still quite small and light so it’s certainly not worse than any other separate light/battery setup.

You need to run the support cell from the word go; it appears to drain the support cell before the light battery and I found that plugging the cell into an already low charge light didn’t give much extra burn time.
