Just wondering if anyone else had experienced the issues I've had with mine?

The digital display started fading around October last year, to the point where it doesn't work at all now. I handed it into the Exposure people down in Builth Wells at the MTB Marathon at the weekend and they've come back to me saying that it's not a warranty issue and I've got to pay for the repair.

They've offered me the option of having the same display with the capacitive button, or for nearly 3 times the price of that an updated rear panel with new firmware inc Reflex Plus, circuit board and a stainless steel push button. I'm wondering if the more expensive option is better as I don't want to be sending it back every 2 or so years due o parts failure.

No views on which to get. But are Exposure sticking strictly to the 2 year warranty? Did you get the light new? Surely Exposure's reputation is built on rock-solid support of their lights and this doesn't at first look appear to be that.

Similar thing happened to my Strada, the display just died one day.

Annoyingly I was never able to find the receipt so couldn't take it back for repair to Evan's.

I might contact Exposure direct and see if they'll do anything.

They certainly are sticking to the 2 years for everything other than LED's so I'll be paying for the repair, I've decided to go for the update as it's my main light.

Sorry for the thread hijack, I can't help I'm afraid but I have an Exposure question.

My Toro mk9, when you fully charge it and change modes the countdown clock displays the correct time 3 hours, 6 hours, whatever, except for when I put it in Reflex 3 hour mode (A3), it always displays 2:49, no matter how much I charge it, but if I change to non Reflex modes the countdown is always spot on. Can it be reset / re-calibrated somehow?

I had the same issue last year and it was 1 month out of warranty - got the same options as you and just went for the straight swap. I don’t ride nights much anymore as I can fortunately manage more in daylight, so may have gone for the upgrade if this wasn’t the case, or got the same and sold/replaced with a newer model.

I was a bit disappointed as it was the first night ride of winter when I noticed the fading and it hadn’t been on since Spring, if I’d switched it on a month earlier it would have been warrantied. I thought they might have still done this one as they are usually really good with issues and have sorted my pals out with some issues outside warranty, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere.

Was the repair/upgrade they quoted for expensive?

It's out of warranty, to replace as is £25, the upgrade is £70

My Toro has exactly the same problem, it's out of warranty so I'll be contacting Exposure to see what happens. To be honest £25 doesn't seem too bad to me.

£25 to fix it or £70 to upgrade seems very reasonable tbh. I'd imagine a lot of other manufactures wouldn't even offer that outside warranty.

IMO id just get it fixed at £25 if you were happy with it before, it'd need to break 3 times to be worth the upgrade and I doubt that would happen.

Nice to know if my sixpack or diablo ever has any issues its a reasonable price.

I bought a six pack and a Diablo 3 years ago. Used probably under 100 times. Six pack screen has failed, no repair center here in Australia so a $100 repair to ship and return from UK.

Clearly the screen issue is not isolated to me and exposure is using cheap parts that are cheaply made and put together. Screens should not fail, especially screens of this basic variety.

The Diablo now does not charge and dies after around 10 minutes.

When I got the lights originally one of the chargers never worked.

Overall for the $850 I spent on these lights I think the brand is crap. I used to sing praises but nup at this price stuff this basic should last a looong time. Like 10+ years with only batteries being the issue.

Next time I’m going German lupine. Germans know how to actually make stuff that’s quality. Pretty disappointed overall.

Don’t do it if your reading this put your money elsewhere.

My MaxxD was 6 years old (have a diablo as well) and the back panel started to lose its illumination. New back panel and fingers crossed it keeps on going for a few more years.

How many chinese lights would I have got through in those 6 years, at a guess one a year!

I have had the same 2 Evolva X8's for 3.5 years with no issues.

I had a display problem with my Maxxd and went for the upgrade (it was well out of warranty ie years and was bought second hand off here)

Apparently the light will do more dynamic turning down if still for a while (can't say I have really noticed)

What I have noticed is that the silver button on the back is way better then the touch-sensitive jobby that used to be there! - easier to use, more positive and doubly so in winter with gloves

(Your view may vary on whether that's worth £70!)

Thanks for the thread. My MaxxD V8 display also died a while back.

the response from exposure was fast and helpful: fill in the forms, send it to us, we’ll check it out, if it’s covered by the warranty we’ll fix it FoC, if not it’ll be £25 or we’ll advise if different. If there’s an upgrade option that sounds OK for £70. Especially if it replaces the flat button which was nbg with gloves on.

Been a massive fan and still have an original race model in silver.every couple of years I upgrade getting good money on eBay for the old units and the more tech they pack in the worse the issues are.recent maxx d display faulty and diablo would not charge .not what should happen on a expensive item .I think I'll look elsewhere when it comes time to change
