Thinking of taking advantage of the cycle to work scheme equipment only option. Wondering if I could get hold of an exposure light of my choice, anyone tried this or similar? My work scheme is Halfords, would like to think I could source choice of lights from independent retailer network, as you can different complete bikes.

Give their cycle to work people a bell. I got a Gemini Olympia from Halford on C2W last month.

Thanks - I'd like to choose equipment not offered by Halfords though, but available in exchange for the voucher elsewhere...

Apologies, I didn't read your post properly. You can do that too though, my LBS were happy to.

You SAVE money buying stuff this way. SAVE. So go for it 🙂

(If you're single you don't need to come up with crap like that ^)

I did - took the exposure spiel into the HR rep, explaining I wanted this commuting light as the roads are pitch black and I needed something decent.

HR saw the bit saying "commuting function" and were happy (that and the fact I wasn't trying to get a chainsaw/washing machine as some had done).

The safety equipment / clothing thing has intrigued me ever since a mate spent an inordinate amount of money on a helmet, shoes, jacket, shorts etc.
Just wondering if anyone knows if the equipment is deemed to be yours after the initial hire period or is there a final valuation payment for what could be a high end, but scabby, smelly, well used jacket?

Luckily, our company is happy for you to spend £1000 on a bike and/or equipment, and I don't need to justify it to them. I'm not single but both her bikes are C2W (none of my bikes are) so she doesn't have a leg to stand on, a £250 light will be a doddle!

As for ownership Jamesey, it depends on your employer. Many will offer you the chance to buy, there is a matrix of value at the end of the period. My company lets you have a further 5 years hire for free - basically mine.

Totally understand this, my company still own my 456 for another 4 months before 5 years has passed I'll take owenership for nowt.
But that's a bike, not a well worn piece of "reflective clothing"...
Edit...
The matrix also specifically mentions "Age of cycle"
