Tried fit the Rock n Road on my new Clement Ushuaia, pumped it to 60psi (tyre states max 75) with sealant in after getting the bead seated with lots of nice pops n pings. Took if off the pump and started doing the Stan's dance and the whole tyre exploded off the rim and broke the plastic spoke guard that's sits by the cassette. Fingers blood hurt and latex everywhere , can't see any damage to tyre or rim though.
Did I do anything wrong?
Would you still use tyre and rim and the combination?
If so what else can I do to make sure it doesn't happen again?
TIA

it's a Hookless, 23mm internal rim innit? coupled with a 43mm tyre?
I reckon that 75PSI limit probably only applies when run with a tube.
For tubeless I'd stick to an (arbitrary) 45psi? depending on your own weight...
Tyre bead not seated concentrically on the rim?
Doesn't the bottle of Stans say NOT to inflate to a high pressure at first when the sealant is in once you've got the beads set in place?
Does it? That’s the opposite of me- I normally seat beads, put juice in through valve, back up to 45-60 and then Stans dance (with Mountain bike tyres/wheels). Never had this happen although I know it was common when beads and rims expected tubes and everyone was bodging everything.
Sounds to me like this is an unhappy combination of tyre and rim...
broke the plastic spoke guard
Bruh?
The only time iv had this happen is when a tyre bead snapped. Is it Kevlar bead? If that's happened the tyre is borked. Might not have though...
Is it a tubeless compatible tyre? The Clement tyre that I tried was not, and I had the same thing happen. The bead broke and the tyre was trashed.
Checked the bottle of Stans I have last night - it says inflate to a max of 40psi, though for road tyres it says inflate to the minimum recommended PSI of the tyre. Not sure what would be the right choice for your tyres, but I think the logic is that if the bead is set properly you don't want or need particularly high pressure, particularly because there might be a chance of a messy explosion as you've had!
In fact, it says precisely:-
"Inflate tyre to 30psi to seat bead. Do not exceed 40psi / 2.75bar. For road tubeless use consult max pressure of the tire and rim and do not inflate above the lowest listed pressure". It then describes the bouncing / rotation.
Not all Bruce Gordon/Panaracer Rock n Roads are tubeless friendly. BG notes that the 700c May work tubeless but is not designed for it. I had ok results with them at 40psi but the sidewalls eventually wept too much and I went back to tubes.
The 650b version had/has a tubeless friendly carcass.
I usually inflate to 40/50psi to seat the bead, then back it off back to a reasonable pressure to bounce & shake the wheel about.
