You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
following rave reviews in mags, went to Porlock yesterday to ride down Hawk Combe.
was pushed for time, so didn't do the full route, but instead rode straight up Porlock Hill, then veered left onto another road near the top, and found a small sign pointing left down into the combe and telling me 3 or 3 1/2 miles to Porlock.
It looked about right, so off I went.
Fair enough, it was nice on the top section, but then widened, and wasn't really the fast flowey singletrack I expected.
Lovely day, lovely scenery, nice trail.
Question is, did I do the right one?
There were various stream crossings, a few large gates, a little metal/wood bridge and I came out eventually by the church...
Can any Exmoor specialists enlighten me?
Or am I getting picky?
Between porlock and dunkery is loads of quality singletrack. Get an os map and explore.
You rode Hawkecombe for sure.
Hawkecombe is ok. It's where we race the clunker classic. Try belting down it on a postie bike. Every bit is ace with crap brakes. That is when it's at it's best.
Base of the combe gets a bit boring after the first gate, try riding up the bridleways either side of the river to the top of the treeline then the singletrack goes on for miles!
