Hi All, looking for exmoor descents for kids. On the list so far are Cat's Scramble (Ley hill down into Horner) and the Horner river track from Poolbridge to Horner (bit boring, and one section near the start needs to be walked). We've also done Webber's Post to Horner, but it got a bit steep at one point. Is there anything else "obvious"?

How about the Hawkcombe bridleway? I can't recall how rough it is...?

What about around Hunter's Inn? Or Simonsbath?

The kids are small - 4/6/7 years old (4 y/o may get jettisoned) but they normally enjoy blue "flow" type trails at trail centres.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

We're the other side of Exmoor from the Quantocks, and it's just a bit too far in the car at the moment unfortunately.

The Doone valley is nice. We did a great route this summer with our 7 year old, following an anticlockwise loop on the bridleways which circle Malmshead Hill. A mixture of moorland 4x4 tracks, a grassy descent down to the river and then singletrack following the river. There are a few exposed and/or techy sections on the river trail, but the ratio of what he could ride to what he had to walk was good and compared to most of the Exmoor trails I've ridden the gradients are pretty gentle. You could do it as an out and back along the river if you didn't want to commit to a full loop (the moorland section could be a slog if weather was poor / kids weren't in the mood for it). We gave him a tow up the road from Malmshead.

Thanks Bornstar. Looking at the OS map I think I can see the loop of bridleways around Malmsmead Hill. Assume the river section is the BW in the valley alongside Badgworthy Water. Will put it on the to-do list.

Thanks again.

There's a nice riverside ride from Rockford through to Watersmeet that is almost flat. Kinda stony and with some rocks but a beautiful riverside ride at this time of year.
