Was all going well til I broke my frame 😆 Luckily right at the end of the last stage. That's me DQ'd as I couldn't ride it back to peebles but they've been nice enough to let me ride the stages tomorrow. "As long as it doesn't alter the results" they say, don't worry, I got dis. (Thanks Nix, or is it Nicks, for the lift if you're reading!)

Brilliant day though... Sunburn, loved stage 1 and 2, what a difference from doing them in the wet! Didn't really "get" stage 4, it just felt kind of overcomplicated and bitty, but still grand. And the big gap between stage 2 and 4 for the E2 riders was lovely- sit at the cafe and eat ice cream! Nice to chat to a bunch of randoms including some STW folks too.

Right, got to go and fit a new seatstay.

Nah, it's all good, I bought a spare rear end off the classifieds here ages back so I'll just get that fired in. Just another day in the life of a very tired Hemlock 😆

What. A. Weekend!

That was brilliant! Loved the stages today, so much fun! Quite pleased with my result too - 83rd out of 160 finishers (E2). How did everyone else get on?

I just need to practice riding bonkers steep rooty switchbacks in preparation for next year and I'll be sorted 🙂

Wysiwyg - were you out taking pics again today?

Absolutely mind blowing weekend. I had three aims

A) Finish
B) Get a time under 1 hour
C) Place in the top 150

And the results are

A) Finished!
B) 59:30
C) 110th out of 185 starters

Sitting here absolutely buzzing. Both days showcased the very best riding available in the valley and how widely it varies. The atmosphere was amazing. Rolling off the start ramp, crowds cheering, little kids lining the path high fiving you as you rolled out, the camaraderie on the trails, great chats with random strangers, kids asking for your autograph at the end of the day. Just fantastic and a massive thank you to everyone involved.

Lost my bit of paper but somewhere in the low 100s, which is pretty much where I belong 😆 What a great weekend... Rather wasted now! Didn't have as good a day today as yesterday, I suppose, rode a bit safe but on the plus side, no broken bike.

Loving the podiums with all the kids going nuts, I've not hung around for many enduro podiums but that was so good.

Wysiwyg - any photos of 542 at all?

What an amazing two days. As expected pretty tricky in many places which made it 'interesting' at times. Somewhere around 110th in the end and had a general blast over the two days. Privileged to be able to ride same event as these guys and girls. Watching them pass on Day 2 was great.

Yeah, timed it well and saw Steve Peat coming down (and a bunch of other folks who're probably big names, but I have no idea...). Was really good to see that, yesterday we were stuck in different time zones and never saw any of the E1s.

Oooh oooh ooh I met Andrew ****ing Shandro! Really kinda unfussed about all the other people but that was exciting. I was too surprised to speak to him first time but I hunted him down like a proper groupie and annoyed him for a bit at the end. Still looks like an orc, though.

Congratulations to anyone competing. Went to Tweed Green on Saturday with the kids and the atmosphere was great. They were cheering riders home. I hope this can be a regular date on the World Enduro calender. Glad the weather held out. One upshot is that my son now wants to try to ride his bike with the stabilizers off.

The kids were fantastic - high fives along the start /finish straight, great fun. Great to see.
Rumour has it next year is already agreed, anyone know?

Was also great to see how much it meant to the organisers/implementers etc. Fantastic job all.

The speeds on stage 4 today were ridic, they just weren't slowing down for anything, that rooty rocky drop off on the lower fort section might as well have not been there.

Wish I'd entered!

Wysiwyg - fell asleep last night before seeing the pic, thanks loads for posting! Somehow your shot makes me look semi-competent (I'm 450). Good skills!

Such an amazing weekend. Day 1 I just wanted to make sure I finished. By Day 2 I had targets. A puncture on Stage 3 put paid to that but still so much fun to ride those trails. Brilliant feel to the whole weekend from the enthusiastic high-fiving, podium loving kids to the smooth operation (Live timing!), great marshalls (who helped me up more than one climb) not to mention the free beer at the finish arena. Loved it.

wellthat was fun

better day than yesterday but ended with a big stack on the last stage

amazing event great atmos - challenging trails, fellow riders and spectators were all so nice, really made it extra sweet

pleased to have finished

7 hour driving later and im back home, still buzzing but shoulders and back bruised and painful

(ps if anyone caught pics of me crashing a bit after the fireroad on stage 4 today Id love to know wtf happened)

Awesome weekend, couldn't have hoped for better weather... Crashed a bit more often than I should have but thoroughly enjoyed myself! If anyone has pictures of 181 it'd be appreciated

Had hoped to be on a codeine by now, but that's another story.

Finished in 56:29. I know the result of one other hardtail, who finished in over an hour, I know there was a guy on a white (steel?) hardtail who was a little quicker than him, but don't know his result

Great weekend, great support, well done tweedlove!

It was a top weekend alright.

Saturday I was snapping in Inners and then went out for a ride in the evening.

Sunday I was marshalling at the start of stage 2. All the riders were great, loads saying thank you and having a chat. Didn'tq see anyone not enjoying themselves.

Having been ferried up to the mast by 4x4, I got to finish the day with a top to bottom descent of Glentress.

Great atmosphere back on the green later.

Yep, the Titus Fireline Evo 29 was me, I saw the 400quid cube, who was in E2, respect for getting round (QR front as well!!) My rear wheel is a gonner after the weekend but it's got a nice sticker on so the rim will be going up on the wall 🙂 Will need to get some heli tape to make sure the stickers on the frame stay on too!

There was also a green evil sovereign in practice on Thursday, who was going to do E2, but didn't see him over the weekend

Chris, it was a great weekend, lots of nice people, great chat/banter with everyone all the way round!

Few more as requested, ill have a rummage through the bottom of E3 and see what I got later.

If anyone wants to use a photo or wants a higher res copy, if they could chuck a couple of quid to my paypal that'd be appreciated. Gotta pay the bills somehow. The rest will be dumped on rootsandrain at some point.

Aye awesome weekend had.
Few too many stupid mistakes on Saturday, so stopped racing and started riding Sunday, then went much faster/crashed less.
Think 163rd in the end. So ok, not as good as I wanted, but hey ho.

Any pics of 239 would be ace.
Cheers!

wysiwyg - Have 176? Love the tubeless fail pic, hope the rider was OK.

Rocket is being modest, I only saw him crash once. 😉

Oli - Had the wrong time yesterday, you bet me by less than the time I lost on the last stage. Next year! 🙂

Thanks wysiwyg. That shot of me off the rock drop is top notch. Do I send the couple of quid to the (slightly dodgy) email address in your profile?

Cheers

If you're putting them on RNR I guess I'll wait and grab mine from there? Or is it better for you to do it outside RNR?

Well sounds like it was a resounding success and the rain held off, how did the trails hold up in the end, i'm guessing 3g took a battering, as it was wet during practice.

3g was probably the driest I've ever seen it. I took 2 mins 30 off my previous best on it so it was definitely running ok after the rain

I'd never done Jawbone before so couldn't say about that, 3G's picked up some new lines and ruts but I didn't notice much troublesome- you'd say changed but not trashed I reckon.

Cool picture of the stage 8 drops. Did you happen to capture any of rider 100??

Did anybody on the forum witness my OTB higher up on stage 4 after the first fast straight.. Right at the sharp right..... Oops!

Don't know if he posts on here but I got chatting to a guy called Neil Crozier over the weekend. My wife was marshalling at the bottom of S4 on Sunday and he had an absolutely massive crash. She said she could hardly look at him as his face was a mess 🙁 and his bike was wrecked. If anyone knows him, I hope he's OK.

Hi bob.

I know neil,
Didn't realise he did that. Gave him a shout, he had a surgical op this morning for a bit of tidying up! But is ok.

Good stuff. Despite crashing he still had the motivation to get up and sprint two yards over the finish line so well done. I actually saw him at the bottom on the stretcher but didn't recognise him 😥

Really? Is that common at this sort of event? Sounds like a massive waste to me.

Wysiwyg, are your photos going on Roots and Rain? If not, any of 512 would be greatly appreciated.

Fantastic few days riding. Amazing trails and great atmosphere in the finishing arena. My legs hurt, The drive home last night nearly killed me, I rode great but got rubbish times (has multiple chain droppages), but still the best race yet!
