No Enduro thread?
Looks like it was a great race. women’s race closer than the men’s! Martin Maes for total domination?
Well done to Abigale too ! Awesome work making the step up to Elite!
Thanks. Happy that she finished. Stayed up for the live feed. Got a bit of feed back from her before she went to bed.
Looked amazing, loving the EWS. Looking forward to the video roundup. Sam Hill down the pack, not feeling well it’s reported. Maes looks to be on proper form this year. Could be a bloody exciting one!
Interesting results.. great podium result for Bex Baraona!
Looking forward to the highlights.. the 'squids' video is here for those that missed it:
I was going to take Bex Baraona in my Pinkbike fantasy team but went with Miller instead.....doh!
5 posts on a major race thread on cycling forum. I despair! 😋
Perhaps I should have asked what side of the bed people read about it on.
I really want to got to NZ now. looks prehistoric with the jungle and all that jazz!

You'd get more replies if you'd posted about how you want to take us back to some anti-car dark ages utopia. Most people on here seem more interested in that, or what gravel bike is best for commuting, than, you know, actual mountain bikes.

I'm just pissed off I wasn't there!!
It's epic riding out there done about 4 weeks in that forest when I was a lot closer!!!
I was mostly going to wait for the rider/team vids to drop to see how it was going - it's an awesome sport but really hard to cover well as a spectator event - of course as a spectator you just get dressed up make lots of noise and drink beer when you are there!!
Maes on a 29 front wheel and 650b rear wheel! Didnt notice that in the clips of him at the NZ Enduro.
was that confirmed? Did he actually race like that that? i saw he was trianing with it but heard he raced 27.5?
awesomeness
Friend of mine is team mech for lapierre, decent result for his man Daily, seems happy.
He was Barnes mechanic, but no need for a team mech as they ain't really a proper team now.
Not suprised by the lack of interest in EWS on STW forum, if it’s not 130mm travel or below or has drop bars, most aren’t interested. Once again Martin Maes seems to be the man. Other than the 29/27 combo the rest of his bike looks pretty stock, which it great for us mere mortals to relate to . The guy is some talent.
Im very interested in EWS, but how much is there to discuss? X did well, Y had an off day, etc.
Sam Hill's relatively poor result was down to him being ill on the day. I hope he's well again for a good battle with Maes at Round 2 next week in Tasmania,.

Aye, I'd agree really, there's only so much to talk about, as it's limits as a spectator sport means we all end up talking tech, frinstance a guy with 2 different sized wheels.
Whereas the Gravelistas can fill entire threads with how much they whank over Geoff Jones latest bars, or just how much moar fun it makes their local sainsburys car park singletrack.
Abigales house mate at Uni had a good visit and win, not seen much about it. Deep Summer Rotorua
Where can I watch highlights? Think the lack of coverage (I.e. red bull tv) makes it hard to talk about.
Have a look here and on the EWS Facebook site, also a live race feed when its happening
Highlights will inevitably be on Pinkbike.
Thanks you two 👍
Yes I must admit the time diff. had made it difficult to really get into.it. Although as first race of the season i love the hype!
Sam Hill's stage 3 practice run POV vid. Second half he is flying!
Sorry it'st not embedded, I followed the 'forum help' instructions for embedding video, but it's appears I'm doing something wrong...

I love the EWS, yes there is little scope for actual race footage due to the nature of the racing.
Its the closest to the style of riding that i attempt to do, on bikes that roughly look like mine.
In my opinion Enduro has pushed the tech we mortals ride on a weekly basis. The progression of the 150-170mm single crown forks and trail bikes is evidence to that. Add into that the packing things on your bike, Tubes, hidden tools, stronger rims, wheel inserts. I do Love a bit of Tech.
It also looks like the riders are also having a ball. Laughing and joking together as they transition round that stages. Very much of the same atmosphere as a local enduro.
Really looking forward to the women this year. Katy Winton has to be within a shout of doing some damage to the big guns Good to see Bex Baraona up there aswell after round one.
Looking forward to the Trophy of Nations. UK has to be in with a shout of that with all the talent we have at the moment. Also the Zermatt Enduro looks like it could be be the most breath taking scenery for a bike race.
The Pinkbike videos of the course preview are cracking. Rik and Chris pissing about on bikes is really what its all about anyway.
Slideshow was awesome Tracey. Thanks for sharing.
here's some random tech for you @dair86
https://www.pinkbike.com/news/tech-randoms-part-1-crankworx-rotorua-2019.html
for me Enduro just bridged the gap from XC to DH by borrowing a lot of tech that has been commonplace in DH for a long time but making frames that are also all round rideable.
I've zero interest in ever racing a derp but some of the bikes are sweet.
Some good memories from that vid!! Awesome trails out there in the dust :)Just taking a look at what S3 takes in that is a brutal beast of a trail for fitness!!
Enjoyed the highlights vid, Johanson unlucky with a mechanical, was right up there.
Martin Maes to win EWS and DH world cup in 2019?
Wyn tv is worth a watch.
Maes will take some beating this year, but he's clearly no dude.
really enjoyed the slideshow, thanks Tracey
Practice starts in a few hours for the Taz round
Six stages up on the EWS video link here
Just watched those. Some serious rocks on those stages!
Nice vids, 2 new 3 old, all standard fare, nothing too hard there but damm hard to ride flat out. The hardest bit for the non locals is that the trail builders have a lot of sneaky cheeky lines in there, some ware way faster and some are way sketchy!! It does look way better in the dry than through a Mo Fo of a thunder storm 🙂
Also wondering who the test pilot is, don't see many fist gloves out and about
Good luck for Abigale but really hope a few locals can pop up and grab some quick times, mate got a 3rd on one stage last time (return to sender - he had been practising the version that was 3x longer 🙂 )
Hopefully the new batch of EWS Brews are good
Women’s field incredibly close! Swapped Cunningham for Barelli in my fantasy team - gaaaah!

I've raced in it but I still can't be bothered watching the videos. Rather ride my bike, and watch videos of something else if I'm not riding.
Ella has been on fire all season and keeps getting better.
3rd despite a dropped chain as a privateer is phenomenal.
Maes unbelievably dominant at the moment. As is Isebeau bit that was more expected with Cecile out and Winton struggling with crashes.
I wish the coverage was better. As much flack as redbull get, the free coverage for DHs is great.
I reckon I won Pinkbike Fantasy league for this week*. I kid ye not. oh please oh please oh please
*slightly dramatic but i've done alriiiiiiight
You did do well!
Well done, hope they have your size
Second place - well done! You’ve won a dropper!
Haha awesome! I picked the same as the winner mind! I’ve been drawn a short virtual straw.
I so nearly ordered a new dropper today so I’m well pleased!
