You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So I stuck an evol can on my avalanche tune dhx air.
Mojo say 17% higher PSI to achieve the same sag
But I've added 25% more and im still a bit saggier than before.
Is that because my process 153 has a linear curve (progressivity is achieved through a low volume air can)
I don't think the evol had a bigger +ve chamber as mojo say it needs 2 sizes less spacers?
Was hoping for a bit more mid stroke support and less pedal bob
But keep the grip I get from the shock
So has anyone else done the evol thing, how much air did you add cheers
you should get more support in the middle due to the higher pressure but also remember your shock is tuned for the standard air curve. you shouldn't require as many spacers as you are running more pressure.
I wouldn't worry about the extra sag as your higher pressure will result in more bottoming out resistance. The only thing you might find is it bobs more.

yeah I was thinking that I may have to get the HSC tune increased, was planning to send it to jake at sprung anyway, been 3 years since I got the mod done! ...
hmmm according to this
PUSH reckon you need to increase the compression damping
FOX air shocks are valved for the air can that they come with. Unfortunately installing one of the newer High Volume negative air can systems such as EVOL or Corset really require that the shock be revalved in order to function properly. These air can systems require significant increases in compression damping as well as changes to the rebound characteristic in order to function properly. The higher pressure that you have to run comes form the increase in air volume.

Im confused

make no mention of more hsc
Still struggling a bit to get this setup right
feels very different, plusher, even with 30% more PSI, still seems to bob a bit so ive got rebound slowed and LSC up high,
slackens the SA when climbing but noticeably sits up in corners
my shocks overdue a service so Im sending it to sprung, gonna get the hsc shims firmed up a bit
anyone else done this or the the vorsprung corset?
If it's the bobbing that you want to fix don't you need the LSC increasing rather than HSC?

people who offer expensive shock tuning say you need it 😉

Yeah I've got the lsc almost at max

I need to get some more riding in to decide, it feels different, I struggle to explain why tho
So an uplift at bmcc and it was feeling really nice, its just the big hits where its too progressive
Its impossible to get full travel , I was running 27.5% extra PSI to keep it at 30% sag
It feels great on berms and small stuff, just bigger hits where Im struggling
I have borrowed a shockwizz and been playing with that, its telling me I need to reduce air pressure but thats taking sag up to 35% and still need to reduce HSC (which is interesting coz Push reckon the opposite for evol/corset) but Its an avalanche tune and that needs to be reshimmed
Sounds like it does actually need a new compression tune...less high speed compression by the sounds of it and stronger low speed valving.
yeah I just had it serviced by Sprung too, dont fancy shelling out again!
Ill probably put the regular can back on until it needs a service again, shame as it sits up better with the evol
Nice thing about TF tuned is that if you're not happy with the tune, they'll do it again for you, for free within 30 days....do Sprung?
I'd be inclined to run it and not worry about using max travel, how much are you getting? If you're using all but the last 10-15 percent then just consider that as in reserve for landings to flat.
ha! Just been out on my 'urban enduro' route, doding the kids having spliffs in the underpasses
wound off the lsc and a few big drops to flat and riding/ jumping down some steps had me using 90% of travel
which as you say is nice to have in reserve, pretty much decided I was happy now
shockwizz saying im
try and squeeze in a proper ride tomorrow at somepoint
Im going to email jake at sprung as he was very helpful, the piggyback has a Nitrogen charge, im wondering If i can drop a few psi and see if that helps
Yeah that will do it as well, the reservoirs act as secondary springs - adding bottom out resistance - which is why the out DHX models had the external reservoir volume adjustment for bottom out control.
