Just been checking out insurance with Cycling UK after reading about them on another thread.

Pretty impressed with the level of cover provided for the price. Reading through the policy documents though it seems they will not pay for losses without evidence of ownership(understandable I suppose) so where does that leave the many of us(I would imagine) who have bought used but valuable bikes in private sales and have no such evidence?

Take pictures of it?

I’d imagine it’s more to prove that you’re claiming for the loss of something that actually exists rather than establishing legitimate title.

A recent photo of the bike?

Even a shop receipt only proves that you (or someone) once bought it, doesn't mean you still do.

Photo, copy of the ad you bought it from, valuation from a bike shop. But for any insurance question ask the person offering the policy what they will accept and ask for that in writing.

Yes, probably the best course of action.

Bikes are fairly well covered with our home contents but was planning taking them abroad on the camper van this year. All was looking good with this cover until I read this bit. Clause iv.

"Theft from a motor vehicle will not be covered unless:

i.the cycle is completely out of sight or secured through the frame by an approvedlock to a purpose built rack fully fitted to the vehicle; and

iii.the vehicle was fully locked with all security protections in force and the theft is adirect result of violent and forcible entry to the vehicle by the thieves; and

iv.the cycle is not left in or on the vehicle between the hours of 9pm and 7am unlessthe vehicle is in a secure car park and in the event of a claim we will only pay if thetheft is a direct result of violent and forcible entry to or exit from the secure car parkby the thieves"

Oof. Not much cover there! Which company is this with? I'd say there should be an "and / or" after (iii) for that to be ok.

Cycling UK. And for some reason there isn't a clause ii.

Cycling UK = CTC isn't it? Who actually provides the policy?

Don't know if it's CTC but the policy is CycleSure by Royal and Sun Alliance.

Well that's strange. I haven't actually taken out this policy and found that wording while reading through the policy documents as part of the quotation proccess. Just gone back in and looked again and now there is a different document without that wording. The wording on the new one seems to give the cover that I need. Think I'll get further clarification before procceeding though.

A photo is sufficient. I’ve had two claims, one was for seven bikes. I did not produce a single receipt. I did produce a detailed spreadsheet of every item on every bike. Including one custom build. I added a web link to Evans for RRP too.

The loss adjusters didn’t bat an eyelid. I think they know who’s trying it on and who is genuine. Was with Royal Sun Alliance.

The wording is there now and with the clauses renumbered:

Not sure that's the correct wording as it relates to a .ie address.

The cyclesure.co.uk wording is different and doesn't have the car park bit in it.

Unless there's another bit about taking bikes to europe?

I'd be wanting to be certain what the cover is OP.

Yes, @Greybeard that's the one! Just been back in and it's there. But in my browser it still has the odd numbering.

@Rich_s definately going to find out for certain.

As a former claims manager, a photo will be sufficient. Make sure its a photo of the top of the range model you said it was, and not the base model you actually had, or I might suspect fraud....what are the odds of the claims guy being a bike geek?
