I'm irrationally attached to this bike, It's seen me through quite a lot in our 7 years together and required noting but tubes and oil in return.
I decided I owed it an upgrade.
New custom anodized rims (many thanks to Steve the Anodizer) built onto Phil Wood Hubs with DT Rev Spokes. A White Industries freewheel and Schwalbe Pro One tubeless tyres complete the picture. New Phil Wood Sq Taper BB, new Dura ace Cables and pads, New Kinesis carbon fork and hand polished bars with new Cinelli bar tape. £550 in all. The whole bike is probably worth £400 including the upgrades.
I love it!

I had the same bike for a couple of years it was very comfy 8)
Only got rid as I had a hankering for a vintage single speed ..
Good work well worth upgrades 😀
Freewheel!!! You're dead to me.
Nice upgrade of a really well sorted bike. The frame is pretty much the last original part of mine. Whilst not as bling, I upgraded to full carbon forks, hand built low flange wheels with open pro hubs and some carbon bits. Nine kilos with mudguards makes for a light bike.
I may upgrade to a custom titanium version next year.
Yep - that's a lovely thing 😀
That is tidy bike and should do you another 9 years!
I am pondering TLC for my Langster or buy a Kona Paddywagon on the Cyclescheme.
How does the Kona ride and is the steel Flexi when you sprint out the saddle? my old Cotic commuter flexed horribly
Seeing bikes like this almost makes me want to live in town so I can have one (only way I could justify it, as a commuter/pub bike, there are hills in every direction around here). Almost....
I commute at least one day per week on it. 40 mile round trip, with about 1500ft of climbing. It's great.
I'll be honest, there's not a great deal of springing going on...it's a 42:16.
looks great....i polish my own bars too,... so that's nowt special... 😀
Have both langster and a paddy wagon. The langster is stiffer, but the paddy wagon is a nicer ride. It flexes as does any steel road bike. That's no bad thing when out of the saddle on a fixed wheel. Mine is 42x14 fixed, but it is a lot flatter. I'd happily ride a century on it.
Just ordered a Paddy Wagon on the Cyclescheme this week, looking forward to trying it fixed for my commute.
I've already been hunting through the spares box to see what upgrades will fit it when it arrives 😀
Nice! The red rims really set it off. Lovely! 🙂
They're actually a Tizer orange.
