When it's really dry and you think **** it...what's the tyre combo that gets dragged out of the back of the shelf (after you've convinced yourself that Summer is really here this time, and the dry spell will last) , and you can be arsed to swap them. What d'you put on? How faster does it make you 1. In your head, and 2; really?
For me, either Fr: Ardent Race, and Rr: Ikon or if it's dry-dry Conti Race King Fr and Rr
1. I can take on Schurter...2. nothing really if I'm being honest, although it feels amazing.
I’ve replaced the Hillbilly T9 and Butcher T7 on my singlespeed hardtail with a Magic Mary (soft) and Rock Razor (speedgrip) for the summer. Not sure the MM counts as a summer tyre in most people’s eyes but the RR is quite speedy!
I went a bit mad this year and put a a Racing Ralf/Rocket Ron combo on my hardtail. 1. I am the wind. No, I am lightning! 2. It's so fast I genuinely scared myself flying down a fire road at 60kmph.
Racing Ralph F, Thunderburt R, Infinity faster, but only in some places.
On my hardtail Dhf exo / 2.5 / maxx terra front and a 2.6 Rock Razor /speed grip / super trail rear.
I still want the grip up front but switching the rear to a rock razor makes it feel super fast
Ray/Ralph combo here. Super 😎
Ardent 2.4 on the front (to replace a mixed conditions HR2). Bontrager XR3 2.2 on the back. This is on my SS HT on local, sometimes slightly techy singletrack, but nothing too steep, gnarly etc. Definitely an improvement in terms of speed.
Edit. That's just because I had them lying around spare in the garage; I know there's better tyres than the Ardent. Have also got an XR2, but it has virtually no tread at all!
When my summer Dissector is finished I'll be trying a Rock Razor or Minion SS. The Diss is faster than the winter DHRII, but it's hard to attribute when I'm swapping the front at the same time and not riding the same trail soon before and after changing.
Conti Race King Fr and Rr
Brave move putting one of those on the front. I have one on the rear of my rigid year-round.
