Yup.

Lighting designer for a London based events company here. Mostly corporate work - all the bankers and what's left of the hedgies spending their ill gotten gains on pissups.

Why..?

I've organised a couple of very small scale events and I have also organised my first race. I have really enjoyed doing it and I was just a bit curious about it. I 'spose I was wondering about the possibilities of doing it for a living, really. A daydream no doubt.

if my current business/job doesn't work out, i'd like to be getting into events management. i like the idea of a project based job, as opposed to something seemingly never ending.

i also like a good party.

Yup, currently an Event Sales Manager but my role is morphing into a more general Events Management role. I get travel quite regularly and its nice to meet people, but can be hugely stressful, especially if you are also responsible for sales. I also did four 18 hour days in the NEC back in September which coincided with the heatwave in the UK. I was not impressed.

And yes, there is always a lot of partying around events and exhibitions.

Don't get into events then! Absolutely the last thing I want to do after work is go to another damn party!

There is money to be made, but now is a bad time for the industry - events after all are mostly about disposable cash. Fair few product launches happening though - everybody trying to generate more media interest than their competitors. The high end private market is pretty stable, but then it always will be. There's a limit to the number of multi millionaire's daughters who are getting married though.

The real money is London based and in terms of organisers, there's a relatively small pool with quite a few pretty big fish in it these days.
