Today I learnt that I am now eligible for the Evans Ride To Work scheme through work.

I'm looking to get a bike which i can commute to work on. And go on 1-3 day tours in England and Europe. Ideally, it should be able to fit skinny road tyres or 29" tyres up to about 2.1". Proper front and rear pannier rack mount. Full mounts for guards. Have an EBB so i can go for gears or singlespeed whilst having vertical dropouts. Be made from steel, alu or ti... although my budget doesn't cover the latter.

Currently, I have a Specialized Tricross. It's a good bike, but I fancy a change and the ability to fit some fatter tyres.

I would like a Van Dessel WTF, however they don't have a UK dealer and i fear that it will be an expensive purchase (exchange rate, import duty).

I also looked at a Cotic Escapade, which looks good. But it isn't on the R2W scheme.

So, back to Evans. Are there any thoughts on the...

are there any others? The trek looks the most suitable, although i think it looks gopping.

Yes, it's 1k. I understood that the difference can be paid by myself, right?

We use cyclescheme and no unless the shop will do a false receipt as the bike is not yours it the companies and you hire it from them - if you bought some of it then it is not theirs- I am assuming evans scheme is the same but dont actually know

I have known folk who have done it - its not me never bought one - who are friendly with bike staff but i doubt you can do it in evans but I honestly dont know

1k limit is the HMRC limit if you don't have a consumer credit agreement, or something like that

Evans will let you buy over, as a mate has just done this, but it was only just over

I bought my Arkose 4 (which I recommend except for the EBB ) for £1250.

Evans were happy for me to put up £250 extra.

Just bought this years Arkose 4 (again, would recommend) for £1,100 and they let me pay the extra £100 on top of my Cyclescheme voucher.

Evans are happy for you to pay any extra. Or by a bike on sale.

Unless your employer is HMRC. Then they play strictly by the rules. 👿
