Hi

My fox rp23 kashima shock on my Liteville 301 is due a service and after looking around saw Evans do a service for £50 whereas most other places it's double so has anyone had there's serviced by Evans?? Is there a reason they are cheap??

Any advice warmly welcome

Cheers

Mark

I'd check exactly what is included in that. Sounds crazy cheap for a full damper tear down, New seals and a bleed. If it is, it's worth bookmarking!

Is it maybe just and air can service?

Sounds ball park for an air can service in a shop with genuine parts

Because it is just a basic aircan service.

From Evans site

- Full strip down, inspection and cleaning of the air canister
- New seal kit fitted
- Shock lubricated
- Re-building of shock
- Re-pressurisation of shock

well, first off it says “from £50” so I’d be asking exactly how much for your shock. I’d put a small bet that a fox kashmina shock is more.

TF Tuned are the default choice on here, and they are good

I used slick and slide in Macclesfield recently and was really impressed. The fact he’s local and I can drop off/pick up instead of posting/couriers is a huge bonus.

Thanks everyone ,I have seen slick and slide on Facebook and might give them a shot was hoping not to send it off but don't know of anywhere in Nottingham so looks like posting is my only option

AFAIK Evans still send all of their shock and fork servicing to the Kendal store where Robin Walker has a separate workshop. It's as clean as a hospital and only handles suspension servicing. He's been doing that for at least 10 years, and he's certainly who I'd go to with an issue. I think I'd he'd been trading as himself for this period of time people would recognise him as a TF alternative etc, but unfortunately you just assume it's done out the back at your local Evans.

Ask if that's still the case, I'm sure it is.

IN all honesty an air can service (as listed above) should probably be done in store as it's so easy to do with the right kit.

It's nothing fancy, a proper service with gas recharge etc.needs the proper setup.

They do indeed send it to Kendal. I've just been on the phone to Evans.

Going to try that for the missus bike. She was deeply unimpressed by the last one man band I tried. Some tiny little shack by the roadside somewhere near Chorley if I recall. Didn't notice any difference at all before or after

Thats because the Evans service is an air can service, not a full shock service. Air can is just air sleeve off, clean and new air seals. Full service is fully strip the shock, clean, all new seals, new damping oil and bleed, IFP nitrogen charge, grease all adjusters etc.

A float air sleeve seal kit is £19.20 RRP.

Really would look at DIY if it's just an air can service that's needed, as it really is one of the simplest things you can do on a bike.

I'd have a think about whether you think it's performance can be improved, and maybe look for somebody like J-tech to tune it for you at the same time. Both my RP23s had way too much high-speed compression damping, leading to massive chatter over small and quick bumps, and not enough low-speed leading to them blowing through travel over drops and dips, both issues virtually disappearing after Simon at Loco spent some time on the valving deep inside.

I'm not sure coatesy I've never had a Liteville 301 before maybe it is tuned to the frame but the firm setting is the same as all the other settings it's a phenomenal bike but I'm bouncing around like a pornstar when Omar is in the house!!!

An air can service will not make any difference to the shocks damping, so I would get a proper service. You can see what tune your RP23 has, even just changing the IFP pressure can make a big difference to how the pro pedal feels.

Give rick a call at slickandslide suspension , hes based in macclesfield cheshire but you can send your shock in no problem and he will post it back and very quick turnaround

As above you'll only get a basic aircan service at evans, for an extra bit of dollar rick will give it a full service

Its not my business just a mate who is very very good at fixing squishy bits!

I have used Rick at Slick And Slide for a while now. He has serviced and repaired both forks, shocks and dropper posts off of both of our bikes. I have to say I have nothing but praise for him. The turn around time is excellent and Rick is really helpful and has a wealth of knowledge. I couldn't recomend him enough.

You might want to give Bounce in Preston a try if you're in that area. Very thorough.

I would say send it to someone who can carry out any other work that may be required.

Air shocks hide a lot of wear inside.
