Before leaving for work this morning, I finally pressed the button on a new bike from Evans.

After the card fraud issue i had with CRC last year, i've always used paypal, so was happy to see Evans offer paypal too (i've never really used them much in the past)

After logging into Paypal and checking out, i got a message from Evans stating there had been an issue with my payment, and to try again later.
I checked my Paypal and Evans accounts, and there was no record of any transactions, so i tried again. Same thing.

The third time i tried to pay, i used my debit card against my better judgement, and immediately got an email from Evans confirming my transaction.

Great I thought. I was aware that "Currently there is no available stock within the company - but stock is available to order from our supplier - If you place an order we will in turn immediately place this order with the supplier." and was looking forward to receiving my bike in 7-10 days as advised.

When I got home from work tonight, I got a call from Evans advising that they were no longer selling this frame (even though its a 2013 model) and they would have to cancel my 3 transactions!

WTF! I checked my online bank statement, 1 transaction shown, i checked Paypal - a further 2 shown.

And to top it all off, its going to take 5 working days to refund!

Looks like a quiet weekend for me then 🙁

And how are Evans responsible for this?

I've had issues with Evans and PayPal but rang them as soon as I had the first problem.

Common sense FAIL.

They've cancelled your transactions where's the issues and why were they to blame because paypal and your bank were slow to update?

To be fair on the OP. he was instructed to 'try again'. Wouldn't say that's a common sense fail.

Defo worth speaking to Evans about because that's an issue with their own website.

I think that the words "Evans" needs to be removed from the title.

And the word "Beware" needs to be changed to "User Error"

Evans are responsible as their website said the transaction had failed, but they had not. + no order acknowledgement.

i also don't fully understand why it takes seconds to make a payment, but a week to refund it.

Just a warning to others if the evans site says your paypal transaction has not got through, it might have

that is all

OP is obviously not trashtalking Evans or anything - it was just a word of caution to anyone using paypal through their site in the near future that it might cock up, and that if it does payment might still have gone through.

Store loyalty is great as long as it doesn't impede your ability to read before replying. 🙂

OP, you should have explained the issue when you had them on the phone (unless you did of course).

Have you spoke to Evans? Like who ever is responsible for web sales? Explain what happened and why it's inconvenienced you? They might be able to do something, maybe to the system to prevent future incidents. You might even get an apology or a £10 voucher or something. They are a big company with a reputation to keep up.

Seriously, I think the OP has a legit point. Evans should have systems in place to stop multiple orders like this from occurring, like Amazon does.

Let us not forget that Evans have had computer glitchy issues before, like with the discount code that worked on gift vouchers.

There response was that "all of our online payments have to go through a fraud screening check. And unfortunately, I can only assume at the time of your purchase, there has been a technical error with the payment system"

I didn't react well to the fact that several thousand pounds of mine was going to be in limbo for the next week, so i think an apology or a £10 voucher or something is out of the question
