Friend of mine, rad 65 yr old female MTBer has finally decided it's time for an ebike. She bought a 2021 Turbo Levo SL Comp Carbon from Evans website. Key thing for her was as light as possible.

The bike is mint, with about a 20% discount, but instead of a Fox 34 150mm it's turned up with a used Fox 36 160mm. The fork has dirt up the steerer and on the air cap so it's clearly been used, WTF? Its a brand new bike apart from the fork.

Some people might be happy for the bigger fork but it looks weird on the small frame and obviously is heavier which isn't what she wanted. Nothing in the blurb on the website about the fork being used.

Anyone else had this? She's going to try and get some money back, problem is it's not easy to find her a replacement 34, only think I can find in stock is a Pike.

First thing we did was sell the 34s and put some Pikes on our SL. Worth seeing what Evans has to say and take it from there.
I would try them first but wouldn't be too upset at running 36s dependant on what use they already had. The latest Expert SL has 36. You can swap the air shaft for a 150mm if needed although I wouldn't have a problem running it at 160mm

34’s suck. Don’t go backwards.

Both 36 and Pike are awesome for everything, I’d say 40% better than the 34’s, especially for a heavy ebike. Try and get some money off and / or a full service on the 36’s.

Depends. New normal 34's are supposed to be good. But dunno if new is 2022 MY, and ebike specific terms to have thicker stanchions.

What was the 34 spec and damper meant to be, what is the 36 spec and damper?

These details could be important.

It’s a used fork on a sold as new bike. I’d want either - a replacement bike or fork/fork serviced at Evans cost and additional money off to reflect some value of an impaired warranty as second owner.

How exactly was the bike advertised ? A 20% discount in the present market suggests there was a reason. Perhaps a used but nearly new fork 🤷‍♂️

The description mentions fox34 but the image shows fox 36 and there is always the point where manufacturers or shops will cover themselves by saying specs can change but the fact it’s used is unacceptable

That limk is to the Expert not the Comp carbon which has a different fork.
Evans will have messed up on the Experts description.

It's a used fork, you don't know the history of, the fact they didn't even try to make it spotless is weird, some bikes have been ridden around in the shops car park cos I've actually seen bikes in Evans with a bit of dirt on the tyres before. I'd demand an explanation and further discount.

Evans sent me a used dropper once that was sold as new. They sold my mate a 'new' ebike that was muddy. Both before the Mike Ashley years.

They're not a great company imho.

It's a bit weird. We popped into Evans earlier to look at women's HT (not got any) and the helpful woman told us that you can't test ride bikes on the car park. You just have to sit on them in the shop and buy them. Plus you can only get a refund if it's not been ridden at all. She said since Sports Direct took over the rules were getting sillier all the  time to avoid any refunds

It's a 36 Rhythm instead of a 34 Rhythm. The tyres and everything else have clearly never been out of the box, but the fork has definitely been ridden. It was discounted like any other previous year bike, no mention of shop soiled let alone trail soiled

What sort of dirt is it? Clumps of thick mud or more dirty water splashes? It could be that the bike was built up and test ridden, gone through some puddles and not wiped down after?

Clumps of thick mud, it's had a proper muddy ride out

Get some photos and get in touch with Evans to see what they say. Be prepared they may ask for it returning. If you don't get a satisfactory answer and want to keep it get in touch with Specialized UK, I don't think you can ring them now and see what they say.

That's assuming it was advertised as new and not as returned stock. Rutland Cycling have had some discounted that were sold as returned items.

Refund and return, only offer in the table from Evans, which she's doing.

Not as far as I'm aware, just wanted it back, she's ordered one from somewhere else now
