Looking to hire a motorhome (4 berth with bike storage) for a euro alps trip next summer. Anyone any experience of doing this and can offer any recommendations? I'm UK based but don't object to driving my van over the France to pick up the camper there, if economically feasible.

Thanks for any advice.

(3rd attempt to post this thread? Is there an issue with this forum???? )

Some years ago I hired one but then I bought one for touring Europe, left hand drive.

Best thing to do is google 'camping car hire france' and see what turns up, there are also a few websites that put you in touch with private renters.

What are you planning to do with it? I ask, as a motorhome owner, who takes a tent to the Alps in the summer. Whether a motorhome is suitable for what you want depends very much on how you intend to use it. Pre-kids it was perfect for my wife and I, but now, due to what we do on holiday with 2 kids, it is better to take a tent.

If you spend a couple of days max at each location, move frequently, and don't mind being away from town village centres, th motor home is perfect. We now need a defined campsite with things for the kids to do, and the Motor home just could not access some of the places we go cragging. Supermarket trips are pain in the arse too.

Thanks for the responses. We want to travel around a few alpine resorts with friends in their camper. Riding various resorts plus other family stuff. Theres 3 of us (1 kid) so it wont be too bad. My wife wouldn't fancy two weeks in a tent, so a motorhome seems the option.

This might be of interest to you, we travel mostly France and Spain for about 3 months of the year. We stop mainly on aires which are mostly free or up to 10 euros per night, most european countries have them, France over 9,000. Most have basic facilities fresh water, tank emptying.

This is the website I use, https://www.campingcar-infos.com/index.php
Go to 'aires camping car', then 'chercher une aire' comes with all of europe pick a country and go from there.
