I live in kingpins...

But they are too soft for flat pedals for me. You need some support or you get achey feet

I ride in Adidas Trailcross shoes for flat pedals. 5 ten sole but a lighter upper.

Any kind of flat skate shoe will work, but some may prefer more support in the midsole so you dont get cramp around the pedals.

I've even seen lots of riders wearing basic Vans. Not quite sure how they do that, they're super thin!

If I'm just out in the woods for a couple hours or at the jumps il ride in my DCs or vans. Anything longer than a couple hours then my Spesh 2FO's come out the cupboard. I actually tried my last set of etnies maranas against my 510 freeriders and the etnies lasted better and we're more comfortable. May just be the more recent 510's though as previous ones took an utter beating

Skate and bmx shoes do not work as well as mtb specific ones. Powr transfer, efficiency and grip is better. I use ion srub amp

The Etnies I tried were uncomfortably narrow compared with Vans or 510s so not tried them again.

Anther Kingpin4Lyfe member here. They're amazingly fine on a bike, rode in them for years. However, then I got a pair of Freeriders and they're heaps better both in stiffness and grip, and the extra protection is appreciated too.
I don't find them narrow, they're one of the only skate shoes that do fit me in fact. Their more 'slimline' ones are substantially narrower though.

I'm a recent convert to Marana's from Etnies, the Michelin sole is particularly nice.
