Has anyone tried both of these, which one do you think is better?
I have some ESI chunkies, they get damaged pretty quick, even brambles cause cuts in them. Seem to help tingly fingers though.
I've got esi chunky grips on one bike and get on well with them. I tried superstar grips on another bike and they just aren't as good. After a couple of rides they crushed down so that there was no padding left under my palms.
Had both; pros and cons. ESI are softer and more grippy, but wear faster and are prone to end damage if you lay it down (voluntarily or otherwise). SS are good, last longer but have lock on ends which aren't as comfortable, but protect them better.
I'd say depends on what you want. If you want no compromise on grip / performance; go esi but if like me you want the bike to 'look nice' too, SS is a decent compromise. I now have SS.
ESI chunkys on my bike with bar ends on too so they're naturally protected
I really like them
I got the superstar ones (without lockon grips, same design as ESI) but found them really uncomfortable in use, not entirely sure why but I went straight back to the ESIs.
ESI are too fragile really but unless I can find something that's as good in other ways I'll stick with them
As above, used both. ESI are comfier but get wrecked easily. The SS ones are still very comfy though and they have out lasted any SS grips I've had in the past. I've not noticed any of the grip crushing down like someone mentioned above. I find them to be great for fat hands like mine.
Just got some Lizard Skins DSP foam grips. Seem very good so far, first try with a foam type grip. They seem to have a tougher outer than ESI but are very comfortable, not tried them in the wet yet but once fitted they seem very secure. Only 25g as well for the 30.3 dia.
ESI were softer, chunkier and more comfy. Superstar ones were quite thin, grippy, but not particularly comfy.
Well I like my superstar ones, and that's on a 100mm travel carbon 29'er HT. I do have carbon bars though, if that makes any difference.
They're very comfortable, hard wearing and look spangly too
How do people find the ESI grips in wet / muddy conditions?
They were great in the wet.
Find mine great in the wet. Biggest single advantage over foam, which get very slippery when wet.
Oddly, I found the superstars grippy when wet, but the esi very slippery if you're not wearing full finger gloves.
The silicon on sweaty fingers was not a good mix.
