got up on friday to snow (like most folk) i had planned to ride to cropton in the norh yors moors, for a weekend touring round and drinking with mates who were up mtbing.
the wind from the east put the mockers on my plan, so i got on the train to scarborough, and decide to ride with the wind on my back.
a route through hackness, langdale end, dalby, lockton, levisham and cropton proved to be fantastic, very quiet roads, and a deserted dalby.

the start in scarborough

a honesty table outside a farm nr langdale end. i bought a bag of 4 very nice scones for a £.

the steep incline up to bickley gate was too much for me, so i had a rest and pushed up

the ride through dalby on the forest drive was very cold, and the whole place was deserted.
i have never seen the carpark as empty, and the bloke in the cafe said he had been sat by himself most of the day.

from dalby, i crossed the pickering/whitby road and broped into lockton. another push up a 1 in 5 had me grovelling at the top

the descent to levisham crossing was truly tear inducingly cold, and i forgot that there was no road up the other side to newton on rawcliffe,
the push up took me nearly 40 minute, having to stop every 100yds to get my breathe back.

long way down to levisham crossing.

saturday morning was terrible cold, and for some stupid reason, me and one of the lads decided to cycling up to the lion inn on blakey ridge.
it took us a hour to cycle the 7 miles from hutton le hole.

leaking tubless.

now i can honestly say that the wind chill outside the lion is the coldest i have ever been in. it was minus 3 out of the 25mph wind, so god knows how cold it was in it.

after coffee and a butty, we decide to get down out of the wind by the quickest route, straight down a very icy and chimney steep blakey bank.

my reward for suffering the cold and climbs.

woke up this morning with a heavy head and shivers, so i decided to cycle back to york for the train.
a nice route through amotherly, castle howard and sherrif hutton to york was the perfect end to a near perfect weekend mini tour.

That's a brave ride in the windchill. Good to see you out there and at it.

Ton I made a small drop bracket for the front mudguard mount on my Fargo. It keeps the mudguard closer to the tyre and reduces the length of the stays which makes it more rigid.

You might just be able to make it out here.
