Posting anonymously for obvious reasons of shame 🙁

Has anyone been able to reverse numbness and the associated after effects of poor bedroom performance?

I'm pretty sure I need a new saddle as I'm spending a lot of time in a fixed position on a turbo trainer but fear the damage has been done. Do the nerves repair themselves or am I doomed for a life of celibacy?

For perspective, I'm 55 years old, not overweight and pretty fit. No illnesses, injuries or conditions that I'm aware of though I suspect my prostrate is enlarged (had the finger check about 6 months ago as no follow up action suggested then)....

Viagra (sildenafil) is available with or without prescription now.

Get a saddle fitting too, rather than spending months on trial and error (Specialized dealers do it)

Just ditch the stupid turbo trainer

Fair point, but it would be replaced by riding same position on road bike anyway...
Seems like I need to investigate ISM saddles...

I had a horrible time last winter with the turbo on zwift and numb nuts, sacked it off this year and joined a gym, same seat and bike is ok on the road but turboing is horrific

Turbo is def worse IMO. You dont mix your position up as much and tend to stay still.

Yes. My bike is aluminium and stiff as I wish I could be! I was getting a lot of ache and tiredness in the important areas when riding, and certain functions were, shall we say, declining.
Fitted a Thudbuster and that has made an enormous difference. It seems to have stopped the pounding I was taking "down there". Apparently the nerves don't get as pounded so can be used for their intended purpose.
I go back many years as a roadie and tales such as this do regularly appear.

I was gifted an old and somewhat worn Thudbuster on here. I like it so much I'm seriously thinking of getting a new one (from Belgium, before Brexit, at 30%off). If I do, you are welcome to this old one.

Try to adjust your position so you're not pulling yourself down onto the nose of the saddle - I used to ride TTs on a fixed gear and at the end of a 25miler, I'd be numb from the waist down pulling so hard onto the saddle. Raise bars / shorten stem on your turbo bike to push you back in the saddle?

Tilt the nose of the saddle down a few degrees, somewhere between five and nine.

ISM saddle plus 1. Have them on all bikes now. Prostate cancer when I was 48, will be 53 next month.

I've had this and always found adjusting the Saddle nose down helps or eliminates the problem.

I guess raising your bars and/or shortening your stem will have a similar but maybe less pronounced effect.

You are leaning too far forwards. I prefer bars up rather than tilt the saddle down. You want to be balanced on the saddle rather than taking more weight on your arms - otherwise your next complaint will be numb ulnar nerve. Raise the handlebars a cm and/or bring them closer to you. It has the same effect.

You do spend more time in the same position on the turbo, you need to get out of the saddle regularly, as you would do on the road. A smart trainer helps with giving you the cues that you are climbing, for example.

Perhaps work on your lower back flexibility as well. Mines terrible from years in the office. Physio helps me roll my hips back and flatten my back rather than dipping it, which also takes pressure off the perineum.

Are you leaning too far forward? Do you get sore or stiff hands as well? If so, move saddle back a bit so your weight is supported on your sit bone. Then get on of them ISM sadddles.

Potential fixes if the saddle is ok outside are:

Lift the front wheel a bit, don't know why put an extra few cm underneath the riser block helps me

Try and rocker plate (there is a Facebook group about building rocket plates using all manner of things) that could help (potentially).

Do you even get the numbness issue out on the road though? In this respect a turbo trainer is definitely different to actually riding a bike. I get numb AF on a turbo after about 20mins and never have ever on the same roadbikes on the road or even on rollers. The numbness had the opposite effect on me though. As soon as I stop I'd be left with an untamable raging stauner you could hang a kettlebell from with no sensation.

To answer some of the questions posed:
Yes, I get numb out on the road but I'm out of the saddle for climbs more often so not such a big issue there.

Yes, the saddle is slightly tilted down already.

I can't get ISM saddles locally yet but I had a saddle fit and I've picked up an SMP Avant (OMG, 350 grams!) for demo. I'll try that tonight.

I'm pretty stretched out on the bike but the stem isn't slammed. I may put a shorter stem on after I've checked the demo saddle.

I'm glad (sort of!) that I'm not the only one suffering numbness...as Geez says, the blood does rush back in immediately after getting off the bike and out of the shorts, though I'm not as lucky as he is... 🙂

It's later in the bedroom that I'm more concerned about though 🙁

Just another thought...how tight should chamois shorts be?? The leg grippers certainly leave a impression on my thighs when I remove them, so they aren't loose...I wonder whether they may be too loose.

Geex - LOL! Never happened to me, not at the end of a time trial, while wearing a skinsuit. Oh no, not me (blush)

Tried a few SMPs, and they’re ok, just as long as the “relief channel”😱 runs right to the very tip.

Hahaha - serious muffled snorting in a quiet office at the raging stauner kettlebell scenario 😀

Only ever experienced numbness in really cold weather riding a road bike for a few hours with a fairly aggressive position - even at that it was more of an unusual tingling than numbness, not completely unpleasant to be honest... it's -1 outside just now for the ride home, almost wish i'd brought that bike today 😉

Take up mountain biking or BMX and sack off the turbo and road bikes.Replace numb nether regions with the possibility of broken limbs!

So, has anyone who experienced this numbness ended up with ED? And if so, where you able to "fix" the ED (without drugs!)
I need to know how!
(I have tried the blue pill and it doesn't always work)

Are you sure the two things are related?
It might be a separate issue.

What strength dosage? I tried 50mg and it was hit and miss. 100mg and the results were *ahem* profound, any more than that mind there is no extra benefit so you might be out of luck there. (Issues not related to cycling, rather 27 years of T1 diabetes.)

No, I'm not sure the two are related though I suspect the cycling isn't *helping*

Tom:I think the dose was 50mg but I'll have to check

You need to have the weight on your sit bones. What you have done is compress the pudenal nerve that runs from ass to balls. NO weight should be on this. Raise bars, angle seat nose down, push seat forward. Do not continue to ride like this - the damage could be permanent
