If I were to turn up here on my 26" (unfashionable,go outdoors) hard tail.

1. Would I die?

2. Would I easily find 2 hrs + of trails where 1. wouldn't be an issue?

Just over for a few days and fed up with usual Billingham loop.

You'd find more in Guisborough Woods, try the MTBG forum?

Errington woods is my nearest place to ride, there''s enough there for a couple of hours if you know your way round. Have a look on strava global heat map to get an idea. Or check out some of these segments on strava itself. Twist and shout, dead man's drop, oceanic, charcoal. There's a lot packed into quit a small area. You can also loop out and round the top of the woods and through the fields and Upleatham.

You can park at the bottom of quarry lane, off the roundabout between Marske and Saltburn for easy access, or in Upleatham.

You could die on a couple of trails I've found up there, but mainly it's OK, a bit muddy at the moment.

If you want to expand your ride you can go from quarry lane, along the main road towards Saltburn for a few hundred yards then left down the bridle way opposite the riding school, over the railway then down through the woods to the sea front, then along the bottom promenade and up and along the cliffs and back down and up through Saltburn woods and Marske mill Lane.

Looking like Guisborough woods today. How tricky is the Red: for a sixty year old, on a coil sprung forked, minimal travel HT (Calibre two two)?

I'm purely thinking Guisborough for ease of finding trails, as I only have a couple of hours. Errington next time I'm back here.

Guisborough is a good place to ride but the red route isn't the best ride there, half of it has been deforested and most people ride some of it the wrong way. A nice ride there for you would be to start at Pinchinthorpe ride along to Highcliffe nab then ride over to Captain Cooks monument then back and down sections called Les 1,2 and 3 and back to where you started.

A lot of the singletrack parts of the Guisborough red route are in a bit of a state at the moment due to ongoing tree harvesting.

The red route isn't that good anyway. Its mainly fireroad with a few singletrack sections, many of which (as has been noted above) ride better in reverse.

I'd recommend the second ride centralscrutinizer just posted above. There's a bit of everything there.

Only problem is: I've not got data while out there, so I'll report back when I'm rescued 😉

You probably went to the right place on the day, I had a good ride but Errington woods was very muddy, I was all over the place on some of the trails.
Did you get as far as Captain Cooks monument or onto the moors, or just stick to the red trail ?

Just did the red. Cheeky climb up, met a few DH warriors at the top (and realised that I didn't want to head where they were going ) then headed down.....suited me fine today (just wish I'd had the Carbine with me) .....all in all a job well done......until next time

I came over from Billingham (my Mum lives there) not lived around here for 40 years, so not really sure where I'm going, road or off-road, so CS's info was pretty vital.....till next time, cheers guys.
