Hey y'all - looking at getting an Epic Evo, the size guide says "L" (I'm 185cm/6ft 1) - just worried that the reach seems a little short at 460mm - My other two bikes (Stage 6 and Nordest Britango) are both 479mm reach - which feels pretty long, but not too long..

Conversely, the Norco website suggests an XL for the Optic for anyone over 181cm tall - with a whopping 510mm reach.

It'd obviously be great to sit on both, but in these times that's pretty much impossible.

Does the Epic ride 'bigger' than it's reach figures suggest? Are other angles and figures at play here?

Curtis Keene is on an XL, 6ft tall.

I'd been on an XL Optic or Epic Evo. Sat on a large optic and it felt cramped.

I'm 185 and I'm on a XL Sight, I wouldn't want it any shorter tbh, use https://geometrygeeks.bike/ to compare both, bc seat angle also plays into how cramped you feel.
My previous Smuggler had shorter reach, but slacker seat angle, so ETT was almost the same as on the Sight.

i am 175cm and ride a Large Optic (i say ride, i am currently waiting on a warranty replacement frame).

But in most other manufacturers eyes i am a medium, so was sceptical about the jump up in reach etc. But it fits me really well and have no issue with the extra length. Having said that, i am now on a S3 Specialized Status which is a chunk shorter, but dont have any issues with this.

Out of interest, where do you think you will get a Norco from? As far as i am aware, Evans are still the only UK supplier and they dont list any 2021 bikes. Unless of course, you live abroad?!

They are very, very different bikes, so odd to cross shop them! The Epic Evo is basically a more trail friendly XC bike (downcountry, whatever etc) where as the Optic is a proper trail bike through and through and will ride way differently despite the similar travel. For me the more important question than the size is which bike is right for your riding.

Don't buy a Norco.

There is no aftersales support. I cannot get replacement frame parts, no answer from either Sports Direct nor Norco themselves.

Shame, good bikes otherwise.

thanks for the tips guys - aware they're very different bikes for sure. Am still pondering what I want - worried that I will just end up beefing the Epic Evo up with bigger tires etc, or if the Optic would be too close to my Stage 6 in reality without some serious spending to get the weight down. The Transition Spur is probably in between the two. Their sizing seems more up my street as well - recommending a Large for me with a 480 reach. It's all pretty academic anyway since there are no bikes available

I bought an Epic Evo last week 178cm, size L. I found it using the "find a dealer" option on Specialized's website which shows you dealers who have stock of bike/size selected.

Cheers, I have a Fluid and needed a pivot bolt. Luckily a readily available Trek bolt fits. And an axle, but that was a common size so easily obtained. I'll just have to hope to not cause any real damage in future.

ah ok, no worries.

As soon as my Optic warranty replacement arrives, it will be up for sale. Absolutely love the bike, it rips, but the stress of being without a bike and sorting the warranty stuff isnt for me (albeit the pandemic played a massive part in the downfall of the process).

What happened to it? I had a large c2 (6ft felt ok with 40mm stem) for 8 months tweed valley. Maybe not long enough to see problems. The thief that stole it maybe having issues.

one of the fastest bikes around tbh.
