Are there any good rides WAY up north??
Son's looking for a weekend trip away & is looking for new territory having done Cairngorms, Torridon etc
Cheers!
Arkle Loop would be an option.
Ah - that vaguely crossed my mind. Will check it out
There used to be a website with the Arkle - Bealach Horn loop but I can no longer find it. It's in one of the Vertabrate books, vol 2 I think. A great wild country ride.
Start at the walker's car park at Achfary, head to the barn at Lone then NE on the stalkers track to Gobernuisgach Lodge. The return is part of the Highland Trail route - up Glen Golly to Lochan Sgeireach, take the fainter left track which drops to lochan Dubh. This can be hard work if there's been rain. Steep climb up to Bealach Horn then a big rocky track descent back to Lone.
Another loop a bit further south. Start at the Corrie Hallie car park near Dundonnell, head SE on the A832 (long steady climb) for about 11km until you get to the track that leads to Loch a Bhraoin. Take this and the smaller path that leads alongside the loch. Continue to Loch an Nid and down the valley to Strath na Sealga where you meet a vehicle track. You can continue on the floor of the strath to Shenavall bothy but you'll have to return back up the strath. Climb out of the strath via the vehicle track and down Corrie Hallie back to your car.
Great cheers - will see where he gets to.
