Morning all,

Just wondering if anybody has taken delivery of any 2021 EMTB with the Shimano EP8 motor?

Really interested to hear what its like, especially range wise, compared to the E8000

Cheers!

Don’t think they delayed the launch, but there have been delays, iirc eta is 2021

You will struggle to find anyone other than press, as Shimano delayed the launch due to failures with the motor housing cracking.

Supposedly December is the soonest.

A mate of mine managed to get a 2021 Cannondale Neo earlier this year, during lock down and only two of this particular bike in the UK (!), but it came with the E8000 motor, not happy when Shimano announced the EP8 for 2021 bikes just after he took delivery. How do you get a 2021 bike in the middle of 2020 anyway?????

2021 bikes came out mid 2020, I've been riding a 2021 Orbea for a couple of months now.

I guess that starts a whole other debate, i.e. if you buy a (supposedly) 2021 spec in 2020 is it a 2021 or 2020 bike? I can feel a new thread starting 🙂

Was some of that COVID? They sold this year's stock so quickly, brought everything forward a few months?

No, it is pretty standard.

Did your mate sign up for a bike with EP8, or is he just pissed off? I suspect the latter.

EP8 isn't, as such, a 2021 product, hence E8000 appearing on some '2021' bikes. as the mounting points etc are standardised between E8000 and EP8 manufacturers who haven't released a specific new EP8 bike will likely just do a rolling update to 2021 bikes as and when Shimano manage to supply them (probably sometime in 2025...)
